If you watched the Rose parade, you'll notice a float with title, "Freedom is not Free", with display of GI soldiers. That is a commemoration of the so-called forgotten war -- 60th anniversary of the Korean War. I did a quick Google fact check and found that during that 3-yr war, 227,800 Koreans and 54,000 Americans were killed. I hope we're all grateful to this enormous sacrifice to give birth to a vibrant robust democracy in S. Korea. And today, we're enjoying one side benefit -- the many Kgirls who enrich the hobby culture in Southland. We hope that someday N. Korea will be freed without any sacrifice of lives, as East Germany was.
And to quote RR: "Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation". Ronald Reagan 1967
Whether we agree or disagree with war, we must honor those that fought, and the sacrifices they and their families endured.
Not to mention a hellva lot of Chinese. BTW-counting civilians I think a lot more Koreans lost their lives than the number you show. I remember talking about that war with my now deceased dad who was originally raised in New England (Boston area). When I was a kid and enjoyed some of the winters in the Mid-Atlantic area with activities like sledding, building snowmen and such I asked my dad why he didn't like the snow so much and he replied "....a couple of winters spent in Korea during the war cured me of that."
PS He was in the Marines, remember the frozen Chosin?
