Obama has had some time to make this decision.

Gov. Patrick appoints a strong Democrat.  Scott Brown just lost.  No one will vote for him again.  Lightening doesn't strike twice.  That seat stays Dem.
I understand the disappoinment over Rice.  She's very capable and was used as pinata by Republicans to weaken Obama so they could win other fights.  That won't happen now.  He will be twice as strong now in the fiscal cliff negotiations.  He holds all the cards now.  No distractions.  He should stare down Boehner and the rest and tell them, "go ahead, let us go off the cliff." The Reps will be blamed and the cliff is no big deal and O knows it.

.....in running for Governor of Massachusetts. Other than him there is no one else who can beat Scott Brown. Perhaps maybe Patrick Duval if decides to appoint himself and step down as Governor.  

Also, Rice did not want to go under oath about Benghazi.

He just won and his political capital is high. Why take the hit of losing the nomination process when he probably is not that concerned if it is Rice or someone else.

He has some hard fights ahead not only with the fiscal cliff, but other issues after that. He needs to go with a nominee that will sail through and use his capital for his bigger issues.

Personally, I would imagine Kerry is a lock for it.

And if snow and I can agree on anything, it's rare.  But this situation has nothing to do with your political position and everything to do with pure political calculus.  In the bigger game, whatever Rice's pros and cons, her nomination would have been a distraction.  That's a shame, but it's also true.

You are an idiot. She asked him remove her name on her own to avoid month long unproductive fight with two senile Republican nut jobs who thinks they know everything about the military and foreign policy.

She is only 48 and she has plenty of time become Secretary of State in 2016 when Hillary Clinton is elected President.
