I like the history of our current anthem. By why are we like the only country that is glorifying war in our anthem? I don’t think it’s healthy.
Some flag rules are dumb. For instance, the U.S. Flag Code (4 U.S.C. § 8) states that the flag should not be used as clothing or bedding. This is a guideline with no penalties for non-compliance. I personally have an OBSESSION with American Flag swimsuits. Like if I see one, then I have to buy it. But I have been called a dumb-ass a couple of times, by no it alls, for wearing the flag. (eye roll)
Everyone is talking about the First Amendment right now. Well, I don't believe that it should be a protected First Amendment right to burn the American flag. Does that make me part fascist? I dunno. Should it not upset me as much as it does? One of my friends compared it to kneeling during the National Anthem. I'm 100% ok with kneeling during the Anthem. But when I see the flag burned, I'm literally ready to fight. I don't care WHY they're burning it. It's just on, on sight. I go from peaceful to rabid. I don't have the vocabulary to explain how it makes me feel!
Then, scrolling Insta, and I see this, and it breaks me down. What do you all think?
It does bother me to see the flag get burned but I understand the whole 1A right to "freedom of expression".
But here are the issues I have.
1. If someone burns an LGBTQA+ community flag it is seen/viewed as a "hate crime". But burning the USA flag is freedom of expression. Can't have it both ways. (then see below)
2. If people burn their own flags and don't destroy others property.... fine. But once you destroy someone else's property it should be an added "crime" on top of it. What I mean is that you are destroying their property AND interfering on their freedom of expression (the flag).
3. If there is an amendment on burning the USA flag.... it must protect all flags. No matter nationality, creed, slogan, etc. But the slippery slope is..... What would be considered a "Flag". Anything you put on a pole, display, etc.
So I am personally against burning the USA flag. But do understand how it is a form of expression, which is protected. I look at it like a preference thing. Yeah, it can make you made and piss you off when it happens. BUT you need to respect the other persons rights about doing it. You can't infringe on others' rights.
I love this post. I'm not gonna say how much I love this post! But I totally get every line!
...no different than someone dragging an old couch or mattress to the court house steps and lighting it up. Cuff and stuff, fuck your "beliefs". Now, is there a difference in throwing Old Glory or a queer flag on the ground and stomping on it? Yes...every time and without question.
This is a very valid point.
In many places you need a permit to BURN anything unless it is fire wood on public land... ie: not in your back yard. Yet even there you need permits to burn certain things. So lighting a flag on a public street, park, etc..... why isn't that a crime? Again not getting them for freedom of speech violation. But pollution violation.

You're not a fascist for being opposed to burning an American flag nor will anyone even hint as such in here. Had I made that post, I'd almost guarantee the clown car would pull up to let me know I am though.
But love this. When was this?
Never mind. See the date as I rewatch the post. LOVE IT!
I've always thought burning the American Flag was a huge punch in the gut, to me. Fly it is schools, federal building, sporting venues....I'm ok with that.
But I don't like it as an apparel used item...I just don't see it as appropriate. It comes off as you're trying to oversell this whole patriot thing.
I'm more of an inner self patriot. I don't need to flash it, or pound my chest. I'm not a chant, "USA,USA USA" guy.
I'm Kinda like when Barry Sanders scores a touch down. He give the ball back to the ref, no crazy dance or celebration...kinda acts like you've been here before.
I just see people trying to hard....it wasn't always like this before
I am not a flag-waver or a "USA, USA!!" guy. But I do respect the flag and always stand for the National Anthem, which I actually love as music and as a piece of history. I don't think it belongs on a T-Shirt.
But "Easy Rider" was a great movie.
I would prefer "America, the Beautiful" as a national anthem.
I like the history of our current anthem. By why are we like the only country that is glorifying war in our anthem? I don’t think it’s healthy.
I would totally vote for this change. But of course I’m not thinking Pollyanna, I’m thinking Ray Charles.
And we’ve ALL seen the apparel thing overdone! When I see it, I think of Coco Chanel’s famous fashion advice: "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off". 🤣
