"How Trump’s tariffs are crushing small businesses while big retailers weather the costs" -  CNBC
.
"Unlike large retailers, many of which have the resources and scale to blunt the effects of higher costs, many small companies facing bigger tariff bills are struggling to survive."

"“We’ve definitely taken it on the chin year-over-year in terms of our top line revenue,” Byun told CNBC."

So what else is in the year over year..... taxes, inflation, labor costs, insurance, etc.    Not saying this year tariffs are not in the mix.   But inflation has crushed small businesses for the past 5 years, labor costs have killed small business for the past 10 years as they keep rising, insurance costs keep rising, etc..... GET IT.    Government regulations, taxes, etc are killing small business.    Property taxes kill small business..... in my area in three of the buildings I own they went up 50%.   Then in MN they are having a new "paid sick leave" tax getting implemented along with unemployment tax..... yeah... figure that into the mix for small businesses.   This tax gives employees up to 12 weeks of paid leave for anything to do with taking care of a sick child, dependent, housemate, your own wellness, etc.  It is pretty vague... on top of already sick leave and vacation.   Essentially a worker could have up to 20 weeks off of work.   Try to run a business with all of that.... seriously.... it is inviting the next fraud scam.  It is pushing everything towards big Corp, AI, and automation.   Yet they don't see it.    But no it is TARIFFS.

Ah yes.... the calling card of the Democrats.... But Trump said he would have EVERYTHING done on day 1.

If anyone thinks things move that fast they are IDIOTS.    Trump also has stated give him time.   Trump also has stated it is a process.   But you never hear anyone quoting him then.

I didn't vote for him because he would have all of this done instantly.   So I don't know who you are talking too... it isn't me.

Small businesses where having a hard time before trumps tariffs kicked. Their margins were tight as they were.
But it's great to see Costco taking on the trump administration on this, although the Superior Court seems to think that for companies to recoup a "refund" due to this disastrous policy will and could get messy.
Companies and the private sector will scream for some kinds compensation and this will get ugly.

This is true.    IF it gets struck down by the Supreme Court and refunds are issued/owed.   It would get extremely messy.

-  How much? would it be total in full amount or partial?
-  Does it go to consumers or company?  Especially if companies raised prices at all. (consumers would have a case)
-  Does interest get paid on any of it?
-  Consumers get in on refunds (see above since prices go raised)
-  etc.

They bought into all his BULLSHIT, Mexico will pay for the wall, I'll end inflation on day one, the Ukrainian war will be over on day one, I and only I alone can fix it...well, the receipts are due and he hasn't done ANYTHING to improve the economy and he's only made the worse.
His polls on the economy is tanking, consumer confidence is at a all time low....and my guess is that the unemployment rate is now probably at 4.6 and rising
But other then that, trump is sure is getting rich off of this chaos. Seems like every country is paying him off.

Are you so sure they all bought into it?    The people I see who keep saying this crap is liberals..... not people on the right.

The ones on the right keep saying give it time.    They are not the ones saying, "why hasn't it happened".   It is the left leaning media always bringing it up.  Left leaning social media influencers.    Etc.

I see people on the right happy with his immigration policy, happy he is trying to get better trade balance even though it is going slower than anticipated (being fought tooth and nail), I see people on the right saying and seeing everything he is doing getting fought in court on a non stop basis and seeing how it is getting held up or struck down.    They see how the government was shut down for 40+ days so nothing could get done.   They see inflation stabilizing.  Gas prices going down.   But all they hear from the left is "doom and gloom" when it isn't that way.    But I digress.

Because the right is truly embarrassed about how his policy are wrecking the economy. No trumpeter will say, "Yeah I voted for inflation and tariffs".
You know its a bad its a bad message.
It's so bad trump is going on a crusade that the economy is great, and to believe me and not your pocket book.
And inflation is on the up-tick, unemployment is now  what?....reminder.. probably around 4.6 and credit card debt and late car payment on on the rise.
And why do you think, his policies or executive orders are being fought in court? Maybe because they're probably illegal?

The GDP is at 3%...... prices are going down or stable on many products.  Wages are out pacing inflation.  Savings is outpacing inflation.

The doom and gloom of the media and the left is straight LIES.

What everyone doesn't understand that the INFLATION crush that happened in the first two years under Biden is going to take YEARS to recover from.   Hell even this term under Trump wont recover fully from what happened.    Also that isn't all of Bidens fault.... COVID and the reckless spending did that.

You bring up Credit Card debt.... was there prior to Trump in office and on the rise, electric bill debt.... all prior to Trump.... unemployment on the rise because of AI, automation, lay off in the auto industry because of factories shifting back to fuel instead of EV's, a down construction market, etc.   But yeah.... all of this was prior to Trump and is continuing during Trump.   But some how is TRUMPS FAULT.      Get over your Trump hating and realize this is actually still all because of the past 4 years and inflation due to COVID debacle.

One thing i just read that Walmart is flirting with getting rid of self check outs in certain area's.   They have noticed that crime is less when they got rid of them and theft is down.   So will this bring an uptick in service employment and a shift from automation?  Bring back some workers?    Possibly..... once Walmart does things it typically seems others follow.

The reason retailers are more closely monitoring self-checkout, and some may eliminate it is because, sadly, shop lifting is on the rise. More Americans are struggling financially because of trump's economy so more are stealing.

This was going on prior to any TARIFFS.....

Why was shoplifting was on the rise..... inflation the past 5 years.   Keep burying your head in the sand on that issue.   Massive increases in inflation can't disappear in 1 year.   It takes DECADES to repair.

So now Dem's/Libs are for big corporations?     They want capitalism?

So do you think that Costco will give "refunds" to the customers from this lawsuit?   You do know they raised prices on customers.   Will all Costco members be getting a check in the mail?

Now I am not for or against this lawsuit.  Let it play out in court once the SCOTUS figures it all out.   But do you honestly think this is going to get back at all to the consumers one penny?

All of you kick and scream about the tariffs yet it will be BIG CORP reaping the benefits of this lawsuit if it goes thru.   They won't be "dropping" prices right away.  Prices are going to stay where they are at or drop a little.  They have you used to paying them right now.   Just like when the beef market was going belly up about 5 years ago (or so) you didn't see ground beef at $1.99/lbs.   It was still $3.99/lbs.   When the beef farmers were not making money.... middle men and grocery stores were.   You could buy NY Strips and Rib eyes for about $4/lbs and grind it yourself (the whole primal) and have that as ground beef instead of the scraps.   YEAH... I know because I was buying them and cutting my own steaks.    But I digress.   Once they get the consumers used to paying prices they don't "DROP" them.     It is the same with the COVID "pricing".... they never went down did it.   When the supply chain was restored.

Why has shoplifting increased this year to the point where retailers are more closely monitoring shoppers or considering eliminating self-checkout? It's because the economy has gotten worse for many Americans. That economy is trump's economy now ( just like the right-wing called the economy in 2021 to 2025 Biden's economy ) and trump's economy has worsened with the advent of the terrible T word  ( I won't use the full word because I know how that makes you post like a crazed trump apologist ).

So it was Trumps economy that created "Cages" for things in Walmart and Target.  It was Trumps economy that had things put under lock and key such as razors, diapers, baby formula, etc.   Or other household goods.

Yeah.... OK.

Now with what I have attached talks about 24 cities that reported.... with some of them CHANGING what gets reported and what doesn't.   Remember CA and WA state made it so you don't report theft of under $1000 or was it $1500 to police.   You know the stores let people WALK OUT THE DOOR.   So those don't get reported.   Yet still is a crime.   Yeah.    But just this past year.... they decided to now INCLUDE them in reporting or going after them.    INTERESTING how that changed.

You two idiots need to get YOUR heads out of your asses.    I actually just talked to a local grocery store owner who shut down his self check outs because of the theft.   He stated it was two fold because one people who were doing it on purpose and two people didn't know how to run it and "thought" they paid.   This is a small grocer in a small town of 3K people.   Had lunch with him talking about a the article I read with Walmart.

On topics, except Border Security, there was disapproval of his job performance. On handling of the economy, his approval was down to 31% with 69% disapproving. As would be expected, Republicans viewed him favorably, Democrats and Independents unfavorably. More in the link . . .
