Weeks of pain and agony to the American public

The Democrats cave and bow down, to Republican’s and pass the CR/Bill that will  open the government in a day or two.

I have not seen anything really on what was negotiated or what demands were met?

Seriously?   Can someone post them please.

was a commitment from Thune to hold a vote on continuing ObamaCare subsidies, which are about to go up. This is far less than most Dems wanted but now the Republicans in the Senate will be forced into a direct vote AGAINST extending the subsidies, something they had hoped to avoid. And Dems can then run against them for their vote, which will help in the '26 elections.
The deal also includes full funding for SNAP (food stamp) payments, reverses Trump's layoffs of Federal workers done during the shut-down and gives Federal workers full back pay. All good things.

So things that Senate Republicans said they would do a long time ago.

The funding for SNAP was in the CR (the "full funding" is back paying what was lost during shutdown?), they talked about reversing the layoffs (judges orders?), they talked about the back pay for those workers and also talked about holding the vote on ACA subsidies weeks ago.

I think the only new things (i just read) were the protections for federal workers if future shutdowns happen and the extension to fund until Jan 30th.   They only needed that extension because the shutdown went 40 days.  So the one new thing was the protections for federal workers in future shutdowns.... Correct me if I am wrong.

So this all could have been done weeks ago.   They could have avoided all of this weeks ago.

I am not saying what was in the negotiations is wrong at all.   I am saying it was on the table weeks ago and the shutdown could have been over with weeks ago or possibly avoided all together.

They were trying to get more but just didn't get there. So are you saying they were wrong to try? That's ridiculous.
Also, here's a CNN article about how the Dems have put Trump and the Republicans in a box, as I said above.

CNN article.... yeah... OK.

The vote on the subsidies will be interesting and could come back to bite many in the ass.   Wait until facts come out.....ie: kick backs, truth in plans, etc.   Which was being talked about and Schummer dodged many of the questions.    The Republicans don't have a plan.   But what is happening isn't working either.   So like I stated can bite many in the ass.   The truth about the ACA is coming out full circle.   What people feared back when it was voted on is proving to be 100% true.   But I digress and not the place for discussion on it.

But this shows that the Dem's were holding people hostage, wanted to use it for bullshit political gain for the elections, played with people's lives.

You can say.... well they "tried" or "can't blame them for trying".   THAT IS BULLSHIT.   They could have been discussing the subsidies all along and probably gotten something done by now.   Either way.... to the good or the bad for the political gain or destruction of Republicans.   Everything else was on the table from the get go.  This will prove to be a major fuck up.  It will just be if people will remember or not.

1) You denigrate what a CNN article says because you don't like its conclusion. Typical righty. Even though the conclusion is so fucking obvious a child should be able to understand it. But not a partisan hack.
2) This does NOT prove anything like the Dems were holding anyone hostage. This is simply the way politics is played in this country and, like it or not, it's just a fact of life. Complaining the way you did is simply naive. And, of course, a hack like you couldn't possibly consider the possibility that these members were simply well meaning and trying to find a middle way. How is solving an impasse playing with people's lives?
3) And NO it's NOT bullshit that they tried. And the WERE discussing the subsidies all along. You live in a fantasy world. Or under a rock.
But you're right it will "prove to be a major fuck up." But it is the Republicans who have fucked up. What about forcing the Republicans to vote against extending health insurance subsidies when they are about to spike hurts the Dems? ZERO. It's amazing Thune agreed to this.

They came out and stated they were using people on SNAP as leverage, using federal paychecks as leverage, etc.

It is why they VOTED NO on paying people.

But I guess you missed all of those comments by democrats.

Yeah.... the shut down was bullshit and could have been avoided.   Everything they got was on the table from the beginning.   They could have avoided the shutdown all together, only had it be for a week or so, etc.   Not make it last as long as it did..... or how longer others wanted to keep it going.

It was all for pure bullshit.     Sorry you can't actually see that.    I know many democrats I talk with do see this.   Not saying they will vote republican now.   But they are seeing how this shut down could have been avoided and was a waste.

The shutdown exposed the ACA for what it is..... a pile of shit.    The thing you and many others don't understand is that the "subsidies" went directly to the insurance companies.....not to the customer.   This gives them an open door to keep jumping up rates.   Also the subsidies were also going out to people who make over $500K.... should they get subsidies???     This whole thing has been brought to the front.....which many people didn't know about until this fight.

If the Dem's would have negotiated behind closed doors none of that info would have been made as public.   Now it is out there.   Now the "real" cost of the ACA is being exposed and how it is thrash.   How it keeps exploding in costs, how hospitals are exploiting it, how insurance companies are exploiting it, etc.    I know you will say.... WELL what plan does the Republicans have.   Simple repeal it and go back to the old system of market driven, dont let hospitals, drug companies, insurance companies, etc run it all.    Then get together and actually come up with a plan that can work.   Lord knows that won't happen but we can dream.    Be it pre-existing get some sort of Medicare or something like that.  Who knows.    The grim/sad reality is that boomers will be dying and they are the ones draining Medicare and were the ones with the most pre-existing conditions out there.   Once that generation dwindles a balance might happen.    Sad but true.   65+ age group is roughly 20% of the population.   That is eating up a lot of Medicare funding.   Especially when that group has about 27% diagnosis of diabetes.... which isn't a cheap thing to treat....then add in heart disease, blood pressure, etc.

Now if you don't think hospitals, drug companies, etc are not the fucking problem..... Lets take diabetes for example.  The most common drug prescribed is metformin.  If you don't have insurance you can get it on average about $100 a month.  With insurance it costs on average $200.   WTF.... yeah.   Why do hospitals, pharmacies charge more to insurance?   Why does insurance pay it?    BECAUSE THEY GET SUBSIDIES or Its government paid.   Again... I could go on and on.  But not the place or time.    People want to always blame insurance companies.... YES they are apart of the blame.  But so is the Government, hospitals, etc.  are to blame as well because they charge what they want and keep increasing prices, government allows them too and will help SUE if insurance companies fight it, allow insurance companies to increase premiums because they are getting charged more (but wont come down on hospitals for abusing system), etc.   Again..... I could go on for 10 pages.

BUT back to the OP...... the shutdown was a waste and even if you think the vote on subsidies was a "win".... it will could come back to bite them in the ass.   This all could have been avoided.

In fact, it just makes him look like a toxic partisan hack with a diminished intellect.

You still haven't refuted the facts that Democrats didn't get shit other than a "vote" on the subsidies.

everything else was on the table prior to the shutdown.   Everything could have been avoided.

This was all about political bullshit and midterm elections.

Again.... you are proving the stereotype correct by throwing insults instead of refuting facts.

...it was a lost cause and foolish from the start.  Schumer is toast so there will probably be agreement from many of both sides in here that is a good thing.  Hakeem turned out to be the dork that he looks like so he's likely going to be shoved aside as well.  Their 40+ day tantrum that ended with the election of socialist Mayors in New York and Seattle and it really couldn't have worked out better for the repubs.   Both Mamdami and the woman Mayorette who still gets an allowance from mommy and daddy were gifts of pure gold for the upcoming midterm elections.

Voted for the original clean CR in the first place, as has been done by democrats and republicans many times for many years in the past.
Then negotiate for what they want.

This shut down irrefutably malicious and childish, instigated by
Schumer who is now being accused (by the dems) as the one who caved.
Apparently some dems want to oust chuckie as minority leader.

AI Overview
Chuck Schumer is being accused of "caving" by Democrats and media figures due to the recent government funding deal that ended a shutdown but did not include a key Democratic demand for renewed Obamacare subsidies
. Critics argue that he and other Senate Democrats conceded to President Trump's demands without sufficient concessions, which included a vote on Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies.
• Accusations: Critics claim that Schumer's leadership failed to show enough fight and that he caved on the ACA subsidy issue.
• Details of the deal: The agreement ended the government shutdown but did not secure the ACA subsidies that Democrats had sought.
• Internal divisions: The situation has highlighted deep divisions within the Democratic party, with some members and advocacy groups accusing Schumer of failing to stand firm.
• Schumer's defense: In a speech, Schumer maintained that Democrats had kept healthcare at the forefront of public discussion and blamed Trump for the shutdown's negative effects.

Leftist planning a back stabbing. That sounds familiar lefties stabbing someone in the back.

Re: The democrats could have and should have

You seem to have forgotten how many time Congressional Republicans refused to raise the debt ceiling on spending they had already approved without demanding concessions from the Democrats. Same horse - different color.

...with all the distraction of the Democratic party now eating itself alive.  This is like election night all over again, lol!  Absolutely loving taking it all in, lol.

Mike Johnson just became the weakest Speaker in history. When he flipped on the Epstein bill, and voted for it because he had a deal with Thune to ad amendments to it in the Senate. Thune stiffed him.
Meanwhile, MTG and Trump are at each other's throats.
And all the Republican Senators but two will have to explain to voters why they voted against an Epstein bill in Sept. but voted FOR one in Nov.
Looks like the Trump bubble has burst.
