The problem for him is the incompetence he has displayed as president, most especially his incompetent handling of the situation in Iraq. If the taxpayers ever catch on to the fact that their taxes will go up sharply in the future to pay for his unnecessary and very expensive war, then he is toast, but I doubt that this will actually happen before November.
Since the voters favor Kerry on domestic and economic issues, Bush's only winning hand is to say that he will be a stronger leader on foreign policy. But this is exactly why the Democrats nominated a war hero.

have accomplished and things that they have failed on. To say that Senator Kerry is running from his record is simply heresay. I am sure that he will explain his record, he will have no choice if he wants to get elected. President Bush will also have to explain his record over the last ~3.7 years. Explaining one's positions and records and countering attempts to distort them is what elections are all about, and it is the stuff that moderates -WHO- will decide this election, look for. It must be tough for you knowing that after all is said and done, you will be shoved aside at decision time.
and I would ideally have liked to see a more impressive record of leadership in spearheading bills. I think Bush will point this out, and I don't see that as "attack politics". Both men will have to run on their records.
If Kerry wins, it will a reflection of how poor the public thinks Bush's record is. Personally, I think it is much worse than Kerry's. I knew that Bush was not a very competent person, but I thought he would at least have competent advisors. Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rice have all been disappointments to me. Powell was/is competent, but obviously lost some behind-the-scenes debates with the aforementioned three, and I'd be willing to bet that at this point, he can't wait to get out of there and put the whole Bush admimistration experience behind him.
