I could never get why the "where it came from" mattered. It got here, it spread and now what.
What's the attraction as to where it started. Bats, Lab...it's just something I never cared about. It got here.

As bad as Covid was, it was a stroll down a sunny country English lane arm in arm with Kate Middelton while she asked you about your life with interest...compared to some of the biological nightmares being "researched" in Labs around the world. Shit that could in fact kill the planet like depicted in a science fiction movie.  

I am totally opposed to such research and the fact that covid mercifully mutated to a less virulent version of itself is quite literally a gift from God. If it had followed the trajectory of the Spanish Flu (oh wait is it racist against the Spanish to call it the Spanish Flu?) EYE ROLL yeah it the influenza of 1918 model had been followed this country would still be in the throws of something resembling the plague in the dark ages.  

Sooo the long and the Short of it is a BAD LAB procedure killed millions and could have killed more if it had been something else. no natural virus will be as infectious as covid because covid has been proven to have "gain of function" added to it. WE ARE AT RISK the world over because of these labs doing this high-level research.

If the virus escaped from the Wuhan lab (which may or may not be provable) it means the Chinese government is responsible for the biggest disaster to hit this planet in years. But if you can prove it, what then? Do we confront China publicly or privately? Either way, some penalty would have to be paid.
In that case I'd prefer they lose all the benefits of their "Belt and Road" program to buy influence in the Third World with huge infrastructure projects the benefactor countries paid for with loans. China should forgive the billion in loans and lose that leverage. And they should lose "face," which is highly important to the Chinese.
I'd settle for that.

I'm assuming there's some sort of genetic tracing that can be done. And if it's figured out in a definitive way, there will be hell to pay. And there should be.
