Are you tired of winning, yet?
When are you whiney Trumpies going to STFU and go away? Here's what the Times said:
"A federal judge in Milwaukee on Saturday tossed out President Trump’s latest effort to overturn the election results in Wisconsin, dismissing the case and ruling that it had failed “as a matter of law and fact.”
In a strongly worded decision, Judge Brett H. Ludwig, a Trump appointee who took his post only three months ago, shot down one of the president’s last remaining attempts to alter the results of a statewide race. The decision came just one day after the Supreme Court denied an audacious move by the state of Texas to contest the election outcomes in Wisconsin and three other battleground states.
Judge Ludwig’s ruling was especially significant because after the Supreme Court’s terse decision Friday night, Mr. Trump complained that courts around the country have thrown out dozens of his lawsuits based on technicalities, and have not given him a chance to fully present his legal arguments.
Judge Ludwig, however, held a daylong hearing on Thursday and still found that Mr. Trump’s claims were lacking. He dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning Mr. Trump cannot refile it in the same court.
“This court has allowed the plaintiff the chance to make his case,” Judge Ludwig wrote, “and he has lost on the merits.”
"Judge Ludwig also noted that the Trump campaign was aware of these changes months before they were put in place and should have sought to challenge them before the election, not after Mr. Trump lost.
“This is an extraordinary case,” Judge Ludwig wrote. “A sitting president who did not prevail in his bid for re-election has asked for federal court help in setting aside the popular vote based on disputed election administration issues he plainly could have raised before the vote occurred.”
The ruling concluded: “In his reply brief, plaintiff ‘asks that the Rule of Law be followed.’ It has been.”
It seems a lot of people think Trump honestly believes he won the election, or would have won had only legal votes been counted. Also that over 100 members of Congress (many of whom are lawyers) believe that.
Of course, Trump knows Biden beat him. But he needs money to pay for his legal bills, and other expenses (loan repayments etc.) once he leaves office. So he’s raised over $200 million by complaining loud and long about all the “fraud” in the election. And he’ll keep doing it as long as idiots keep sending him money. And as a bonus, he’s doing his best to paint Biden as an illegitimate President, to get back at the Democrats who were bent out of shape by his win in 2016.
As for those in Congress, state attorney generals, governors and others who are supporting Trump’s desecration of the Constitution, most of them are pretty smart people, a lot of them are lawyers, and they most likely know suits like these have a snowball’s chance in hell of succeeding. So why do they support Trump’s efforts? Let’s see... 74 million people voted for Trump. These folks want to stay in office. Trump has a habit of doing his best to destroy people who even glance at him crosswise. There ya go.
Not only is this one of the the biggest if not the biggest trashing of the Constitution in US history, it’s also quite probably the biggest scam ever perpetrated on the American public. Even bigger than Trump’s previous biggest scam, around the coronavirus, e.g. “This is a flu.”, “Typically, that will go away in April.” etc etc etc.
And Trump is laughing all the way to the bank. As long as millions of people, including many elected officials, buy into this hoax, he’s winning. And he’s not getting tired of it.
When will the Republicans who are enabling him get tired of losing?
It’s no secret that Trump is acting like an ass, and his antics have turned off a lot of moderates. But the encouraging thing in all of this is that the Judiciary, including those judges appointed by Trump, has followed the Constitution and the laws on the books. This should send a strong message to everyone that we are a nation of laws, and that the courts should (and hopefully will continue) to not become political pawns.
Look at the polls. A majority of Republicans think Biden won only because of fraud.
Please don't call these people Republicans. They are not. They are members of the Trump party. The Republican party is gone. Replaced by a cult.
I use the term mainly because the article referred to them as Republicans. But that is, indeed, a party in name only and it is in the process of self-destruction, viz. the Trumpets who are calling for its demise.
We need real conservatives like The Lincoln Project folks to form the core of a new party which does NOT use the brand name of Republican. That brand has been soiled forever.
The party of Lincoln, TR, Ike and, yes, Reagan is no more.
Right now polls don’t show “have turned off a lot of moderates.” However, in the long run, this might affect independent voters. By ‘moderate’ if you mean ‘moderate republican’ ... I don’t think they exist anymore.
Regarding the courts doing the right thing - like you, I am delighted too. But it also haunts me that Trump and his cronies have pulled down the bar to such a destructive low, we are being thankful for oath taking officials just doing their JOB! It will take a long time for this country to come out of that abyss!
Shifting large blocs of votes lost its relevance a long time ago. In 2016, it was
Clinton 65,853,514 / 48.2%
Trump 62,984,828 / 46.1%
.
In 2020, it was
Biden 81,282,376 / 51.3%
Trump 74,222,576 / 46.9%
.
+/- 100 votes can shift a district that can win a county that can win a state that moves all of the electors from Column A to Column B.
.
Voter suppression, gerrymandering, laser focused ad targeting in key districts, resource draining lawsuits,* etc., will continue to be more important than winning 3 million or 7 million or 10 million more votes where those votes don't count.
.
* The Trump campaign originally agreed to pay $3 M for the recounts in Milwaukee and Dane counties. They have now decided not to pay, leaving those largely Dem counties in the lurch. They will have to take the loss or spend even more suing in court to collect the debt. Either way, the tactic drains the resources of those counties. For Trump and Reps, it's a win-win.
