If God didn't want us to eat animals, why did he make them taste like meat??......teeth_smile

I'll be out for 8-9 days in the Wild American West for the sole purpose of consuming adult beverages in the evening over a burning (previously upright trees of mother earth) campfire and hopefully killing a majestic North American Bull Elk during the day!  If there are any environmental or animal rights wackos in the crowd, don't fret because we won't be just using 4WD Jeeps to enter the virgin timber areas, we'll have our ATV's in tow!!  Oh, the wonderfully aggressive treaded tires that I put on last night!!!  In addition to the Elk, we hope to kill a few Mule Deer in the process!!  I know this may be incredibly insensitive to some, not as many as on the Earth First board that I hope to post to later, but hey, tough shit:)

Good luck to any other hunters that may be entering the woods and fields in the next few weeks!!!

Oh, yes I know this is a political board.  The last hiatus I took, I noticed that my non-presence on the board caused some to believe that I had been intimidated to post or some bullshit like that, so see your meatheads, confused moderates and fellow neo-cons later.

Have fun, Archie.  If you do see some other hunters - WATCH OUT !!!  They might correctly identify you as a, far from extinct, American Asshole - I've heard they like to display these as cup holders.

the Deer population would be out of control. Like it or not, since we've removed the top predators from the food chain, hunting has become necessary to control deer populations. As a small side benefit, some of us right-wing extremists actually donate some of the meat we harvest to needy families. A decent sized doe can yield a freezer full of tasty venison.

If you've never had a deer-meets-car accident, thank a Hunter.

... well we've killed most of the mountain lions, wolves, coyotes and other natural predators that used to keep the deer population in check, so now we gotta kill the deer’s and keep that population in check ourselves, and oh by the way you should thanks us for it. YEAH RIGHT ?

Look I'm not against hunting, and I respect someone like Ted Nugent that actually eats the game he hunts and actually has thought and conservation within his reason and logic of hunting, that he does usually with a bow & arrow I might add ! ! !
BUT, asshole hunters that go hunt with semi-automatic rifles and kill solely for the sport, thrill, ego of it, you think we should thank them ? GIVE ME A BREAK.

PS - Yeah I know Ted's a Republican, and supports Bush, I didn't say I agree with him on evrything, DUH ! ! !
Also, yeah I've had venison, and buffalo and other exotic meats RLTW so don't go saying I don't know about it because I haven't tried it.

Baloney Man, please accept my advanced apologies for calling you a moron.

Where did I state that killing off "most of the mountain lions, wolves, coyotes and other natural predators that used to keep the deer population in check" was a good thing? Or, that I even agree with it. It's a simple fact. Another simple biological fact is that over-population for any species is a bad thing. Not controlling the deer population would be bad for us and for all the little Bambi's. Simple fact.

Also, I hunt for food. Not trophies. Don't get me wrong, if a nice 10 or 12 Pointer comes within range I'll get him. But I don't advocate hunting merely for a trophy.

For you to claim that my logic about controlling the deer population is twisted is simply stupid.

Still more ignorance. Talk to anyone who has to drive frequently at night in areas that are over-populated, which adds up to quite alot of area here in the South.

Why not simply allow the natural predators to do their work instead of shooting or poisoning them?  The fact of the matter is, I, like you, have created the situation of uncontrolled growth of some types of wildlife in or near the suburbs that both of us almost surely live in.  I would not consider myself a hero for taking advantage of the situation that I helped create, if, I still used guns or other weapons.
Your post would have been much more credible if you had simply stated that you like to hunt and enjoy the work involved and tracking the wildlife that you bag.  A lot of people that do not hunt donate food and money to the needy, on a regular basis. So while your action in this area is admirable, it should not be used as a mask for something that you like doing, an activity that others may find objectionable.

My post was a response to the idiotic statement that "hunters are boys". You say "Why not simply allow the natural predators to do their work instead of shooting or poisoning them?". The predators are not around anymore! For you to claim that I don't approach hunting from a conservation aspect and therefore lack credibility is an ignorant assumption on your part.

Have you supported that?  I will make another ignorant (your assessment) and say that you never have.  Natural predators would be too busy munching on the over supply of wildlife, that you would rather attempt to control by hunting, to cause havoc like attacking farm animals, pets and people - except in situations where hunters have decimated the supply of the wildlife that predators feed on.  Conservation my ass, call it what it truly is.
Oh well, maybe my bullshit is just a natural reaction to your hypocrisy.

Re-introduction of predators would be great and I support the the idea behind it. But past attempts at re-introducing Red Wolves in the Smokies, and Cougars and Grey Wolves in Western states have been unsuccessful and resulted in problems between the animals and people living in those areas. Research the facts and you'll see.

Again, an ignorant assumption on your part.

More power to ya.  Love the taste of moose and caribou- some of the best damn steaks I ever had.

I do think it would be fun to put together a special forces/regiment team of counter hunters though.  I think it would be more fair if you guys never knew when the game might have an ally that shot back.  Keep you more manly and all.

Happy Hunting...

Think of the wall pieces that some of these dudes that posted to this thread would make.  But of course common sense would ultimately rule the day and they would not be made into wall pieces.  But making them shitless for a while, now that is a different story.

I am envious as hell, I didn't get drawn this year for elk, but I will be on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in early November looking to kill me some deer and may just kill me some quail & grouse after I bag the deer!

We don't need a permit here, you just have to drop a knife somewhere close by and claim self defence. The deer had it comming.
