Nam and the latter part of the 60s and early 70s.
Kerry did go to Nam, but from all accounts was neither respected nor admired. He returned the favor by calling all service men baby killers and barbarians... and threw his medals away - but stangly he now claims...
Billy.... clinton that is, Arkasas B! oh that's right we only want to talk of Reps who got out of the draft, cause it was cold, Billy went to England where he took the pulpit on foreign soil to denounce the US... sorry, forgot...
All this illustrates is that it was a difficult time... for many Kent State was about killin the communistic unruly younguns... what they failed to understand was that one of the rabble was an AFROTC cadet - going to class.
I had friends, ironically enough, who during that dark period went into the National Guard, avoided the draft - only to make the military a partial career.... and now? they are in Iraq! Ironic no?
Both Demos and Reps, did a lot that each is embarassed by... or should be... but calling each other names... well, that won't get us moving forward now, will it!???
oh, to be blunt about it, while I do not care for Kerry, I respect his service, same for all the others, I can respect some aspects of their lives.... EXCEPT Kennedy. I would forgive him, if Mary Jo would tell me to so do, but unfortunately she is quiet.
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, "How is you friend Audrey doing?"
She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's! always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."
Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to-the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Now I will officially welcome you to the Republican party.

If you want to equate material success in life with 4.0 GPA's remember there are plenty who get their 4.0 GPA because the Daddy golfs with the dean, and others despite doing all the hard work are told that your GPA will still be 2.0.
"W" is the poster board child of what happens when responsibility is handed to you without you having done the hard work of preparing yourself to accept it.

A couple of better "poster board chil(dren) would be Hanoi "I married the queen of ketchup" Kerry and Fat Bastard "my dad was a bootlegger" Ted Kennedy, both of whom never did a days work in their lives. But they both hate the rich so they are worshipped by the libbie-pinks.
Say what you will but at least they did not lead us to a place where we are having our peckers wacked off and handed to us.
I forgot to mention that at least Kerry went to Nam and got shot at, two of Teddy's elder brothers served in WW2, one killed and the other nearly so, Daddy Bush himself served in the Pacific and was shot down whilst all the "decider" did was picking his butt in the texas and alabama ANG. Mr "Fuck you" Cheney got five deferments from the Vietnam draft because, well, he had better things to do. The rest of them aren't much better. Why did they all hate military service for themselves so much?

Yes, indeed, a difficult time, has been for me many years. I still get into a bad mood when I see a long haired dude, brings me right back to the spittting, greasy hippies of 1970.
I am one of those long haired hippie dudes of whom you speak so contemptuously. I'm STILL a longhair, I just wear it on the inside now.
Firstly, I've only spit three times. Once at Tom Metzger, once at David Duke, and once at a TV image of Christiane Amanpour. I've always been near obsessive about personal hygiene, and wash my hair every other day. Don't have as much now, so i use less shampoo. Every other day.
I'm tired of the pointless hating you and your clones in here throw at us. Give me substance, or give me space. Screw you and your ignorant posturing.

and I've gone through short, long, grey and now no hair! lol
But I guess the issues that we now face ARE somehow different, but it is us, who we seem to have the most problems with - as Pogo is quoted often "We have met the enemy, and he is us!"
The point being that they were not chickenhawks dragging us into a unwinnable forever war.
Again say what you will about Clinton and the draft his handling of foreign policy appears masterfully when compared against the current pResident.
About calling names, well now the shoe's on the other foot is it not? The House repubs now want to have a minority bill of rights, something they totally ignored when they were in power. And if Pelosi told them to go "fuck themselves" I'd say she'd have every right to do so. Maybe she will, maybe she won't.
that both sides are "selectively" providing information - and as I said, the only person I have real problems with is Ted Kennedy. He is, IMHO, a sorry excuse for a human being. No ifs, ands or buts about it.
Relax man U R 2 uptite in your tites i.e. aimed at biggertitman who is probably smaller titman. The only way U will have 2 serve is if U volunteer and from what U posted U are nowhere near doing that.
is by arguing with their stupid imaginary daughters.

LO fuckin L
seminary school. And Kerry did worse than Bush at Yale.
Makes you think that Poppy probably helped him with more than just his application, doesn't it?
"legacy admission," a lucky stiff who gets in by virtue of a parent having attended [the fact that his family is well-off and politically connected ain't no handicap either].
you because you cannot read a simple sentence. I said "stupid imaginary daughter" which means that NCJimbo had to make her up because she does not exist. No need to make up a stupid imaginary conservative though.
Then again, you have the reading comprehension of a Republican so most words with more than three letters are probably beyond you.
Our President, GW Bush, managed to barely survive at Yale with a 2.35 GPA. While the rest of us have to work harder to bring up grades like this, GWB plays the Republican tactic: cheat, steal, and buy your way out of your failures.
Use your millions in family inheritence which you had nothing to do with raising to buy and manipulate yourself into power.
My Republicanism is from the old school. You succeed by being honest, hardworking and pulling yourself from the bootstraps, and putting:
1. family above fame,
2. country above self,
3. and God above all else.
President GW Bush is from the country club, born of wealth and privilege and your assessment of our Commander-in-Chief is accurate. Do not make the mistake that a distinction exists for Democrats. GW is part of the same hypocrisy as Senators Kerry and Clinton.

who put country above self and I guess I have to go back to Lincoln. Damn! You must be fucking old.
Wealth and selflessness are not necessarily mutually exclusive terms. President Theodore Roosevelt led the charge on San Juan Hill, fought to protect the environment and fervently rallied against the corporate trusts for the good of the country. He was born wealthy. So were Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, and Kennedy.
President’s Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford and Reagan were born from modest and even poor households. They pulled themselves up, and achieved something. I respect a man who succeeds from his own deeds. They were good Americans and Republican Presidents.

which by definition excludes the Democrats you just mentioned. Teddy Roosevelt may have been a Republican, but in name only. Not too many Republicans call his name fondly. Then you switch your criteria by naming Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford and Reagan. They may have "achieved something," but country over self was certainly not it.
In fact calling Nixon a good American means that you are just yanking my chain.
Though I am registered Republican I am not an ideologue. Fact is FDR, was a great President. The Greatest in my opinion is in order: Washington, Lincoln and FDR. President’s Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford and Reagan were good.
Yes, I do like Nixon. That is not a joke. He got us Peace with Honor in regards to the Vietnam Conflict. Engaged for the first time, diplomatic dialogue with the Soviet Union and China. His list of domestic accomplishments is also long and distinguished.
