appears to be the fabrication of Republican Rep. Curt Weldon. First of all he says that he has no copy of the memo that he saw. He is no longer sure that Atta's name was on it despite prominently placing his name in a "recreation" of the memo and the Pentagon has not confirmed the story. So basically this whole thing is sourced to a rogue Republican congressman from Pennsylvania who is insinuating that the Republicans on the 9/11 Commission as well as the Pentagon and the Bush Administration are trying to cover up knowledge that Clinton screwed up stopping 9/11, something that he has absolutely no evidence for. Yes, very interesting indeed.
WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon has been unable to validate claims that a secret intelligence unit identified Sept. 11 hijacker Mohamed Atta as a terrorist more than a year before the attacks, a Defense Department spokesman said Monday. Larry Di Rita said that some research into the matter continues, but thus far there has been no evidence that the intelligence unit, called "Able Danger," came up with information as specific as an officer associated with the program has asserted. "What we found are mostly general references to terrorist cells," Di Rita said, without providing detail.
So basically Wheldon's story is either complete BS or Cheney and the DOD are on Clinton's payroll.
