This back and forth bickering about abortion is tiresome. Here’s some common sense as I see it.

Without meaning to generalize, I can say that most women who become pregnant chose to engage in activity that results in pregnancy. They choose to fore go birth control or allow a man to do his thing without protection. Making that choice, which they are perfectly free to do, can have very big consequences. If you can’t prevent an unwanted pregnancy by taking personal responsibility for your body how can you then expect others to respect what you choose to do with your body. Especially when in some cases you’re expecting us to pay the bill.

I, for one, understand perfectly a woman’s argument that it’s her body and her choice. No free people have a natural ability to arbitrarily accept the position of others when it concerns something so personal. However, I also understand the argument of others who take it upon themselves to “protect” the life of the unborn. They feel obligated, for various reasons, to interject themselves and confront the forces they feel are allied against them, and the unborn.

First, let me say that life is life regardless of how developed it is. If the Curiosity rover on Mars were to find a single cell amoeba under some rock on the planets surface the whole world would call it life including the pro-choice advocates. So, now that that’s settled lets move on.

As it stands now, a women’s right to choose abortion over childbirth is guaranteed and I’m okay with that. But what shouldn’t be lost in the discussion is that there is a life that will be lost forever. And for what reason, really? As I said, without meaning to generalize, I find acceptable excuses to abort a life lacking. After all, giving the child up for adoption is always an option so that can answer the financial argument.  Convenience? Somehow it’s more acceptable to abort a life than carry it to full term? How about the pink elephant in the room? Shame. Human nature says there is a degree of shame in carrying a baby to full term and them not coming home from the hospital with him or her because he or she was given up for adoption. Abortion which is most often a heavy physiological burden for a woman can somehow be tolerated but adoption can’t? I know that there are other reasons and some of them are specific to individuals but I still haven’t heard any that justify the volume of abortions done in this country.

The pro-choice proponents seem to me to dwell on the selfish side of the argument. I guess that’s easier to do if unlike me you don’t see conception as the beginning of life. If it’s not a life as far as they’re concerned then there’s nothing being killed, and I accept their right to see it as they do. But I keep coming back to the same place in my mind. Conservatives are called “extreme” for their views on abortion and all they’re asking for is that the life be allowed to grow and experience the one world any of us will ever know. The pro-choice advocates want to end life, for the most part, at will, and sometimes under horrific circumstances including late term or partial birth abortions.

So ask yourself, as I have. Who’s extreme?

shit their pants over the issue.

The OP nails it, nihilistic and selfish.

Libs are essentially Peter Pans who love it when they can avoid responsibility.

Most of the pro-life people have not tried abortion. So that's like being homophobic, without ever taking it up the ass. Given the fact gays, as a group, do the least aborting, they should be prized citizens with conservatives. But they aren't, because the Right is not about "life," they are about controlling others and eliminating choice. If they got in there and did a few abortions and had a few abortions, put a little elbow grease into it, I would be more inclined to believe them. But if you don't like it, don't do it and leave law abiding citizens alone. And if you do like it, keep on pissing those pro-lifers off!

Wow! So true FFF!

I can`t speak for everyone but I certainly don`t want to control anyone or eliminate choices. It would be nice though if they could show the ability to take control of themselves and live with their choices without involving others.

Yes, live with their choices. That sentence has both "life" and "choice" in it.

I would only add put it in a jar and wear it around your neck.

When life gives you lemons, cut the lemon in half, rip out the seeds and crush it until it bleeds out all its juice. Otherwise known as making lemonade.

When my children were conceived, my first wife and I were anxious throughout the pregnancies, knowing what all could go wrong. It always felt like there was the potential to have a child, but nothing was guaranteed. Married again, and both women had miscarriages, and that really showed me how fragile the whole process is. Oh, and one of them, a staunch Republican, church going woman, had 3 abortions, prior to our relationship. She would profess to be pro-life. I've known many such women. That's one of the dirty little secrets of many churches and those claiming to be pro-life. That along with the men who claim to be so, and have willingly let the woman he impregnated, follow through with an abortion; often leaving her to go through it by herself.

I guess, to say it succinctly; I no more see a zygote being a human being, than I do an acorn being an oak tree.

P.S. I think you've placed too much of the burden upon the woman for becoming pregnant. There are errors even with birth control. There are times when the woman is made to believe that the man would equally shoulder the responsibility for raising a child, then backs out. Oh, and there are all those times that the guy tries to lower the woman's resistance to sex, by plying her with alcohol, and or drugs, which of course can lead to impaired judgement. But, who do you want to leave holding the bag? The woman!

You said.....
"I guess, to say it succinctly; I no more see a zygote being a human being, than I do an acorn being an oak tree."

I said a single cell amoeba was life. I didn`t say it was akin to a human, or an oak tree for that matter. Just life, which comes in many forms.

I say a zygote is living. Do you disagree?

you can no longer get rid of it.

If it's in the womb; it is a Zygote, and nothing more!

What the hell are we going to do with 10 million more vagrant babies every year? The war hawks will HAVE to come up with another REALLY BIG WAR since it is the only culturally accepted form of population control for the Righties.
