New GOP House speaker tells NBC Nightly News he doesn't question Obama's citizenship; calls new health law 'biggest job killer'

... politicians are lousy economists.

I disagree with the new health care law; and I agree it will likely cost (non government) jobs.

The trouble is that when a politician speaks, it is not very credible, even if he is correct. If a politician happens to be correct, it is like a broken clock being right twice a day.

the reasons everyone supposes. Like most bills, this one came with a little something extra that no one looked for, no one with any sense of business would want if they had seen it originally - and it's going to hurt small business more than any other business. It's that pesky 1099-Misc. that we're all supposed to ask for a tax ID if we buy more than $600 in any given place of business for our business.

I'm not really surprised that it isn't brought up on the news, but it's infuriating all the same.

"And one thing I am NOT is an "accountant." "

I can feel your pain johngaltnh.
My boss recently  informed me, on top of my duties ordering all janitorial supplies, and cleaning the numerous bathrooms in his office complex  with diligent precision, I now have to start keeping records of all the supplies I order, and submit multiple copies to book keeping to insure the 1099s are correct when sent out. I told him the rule isn't required  until 2012 and asked why book keeping can't keep records of the money they disperse.
The smart ass told me book keeping doesn't want to get their hands dirty with original janitor receipts, and  he wants me to start practicing now to make sure I have it down pat when the the regulations are enforced in 2012.
On the bright side I won another award for the  cleanest bathrooms and the shiniest marble foyer in town. I'm leaving on a all expenses paid, three day trip to Miami in the morning.

My boss sometimes pisses me off, but today he gave me $300 cash to take with me on my trip and  told me how much he appreciates my hard work.
I better start packing. If I don't make it back later this evening, I'll be back tan and rested on Tuesday.
I hope "everyone" has a great week end. I know I will.

... because I'm right at the borderline of what many providers will accept size-wise in their vagina as it is.

Speaking of which, though -- do you remember the low to which Bob Dole sank when he started selling Viagra?

Lemme tell you ... I refer to prostitutes as "providers" -- and that is cool. But I reserve the W-word ... Whores ... for only two groups of people: Politicians and the people who buy them.

Not only will it be infuriating to receive these 1099-Misc forms, it will be infuriating to generate them.

I do a number of small businesses and am currently starting yet another. You could think of me as sort of an entrepreneurial mad scientist. And one thing I am NOT is an "accountant." I freakin' hate keeping track of gobs of paperwork, filing it just-so, etc etc etc.

When I am tied up screwing with paperwork, I can't do anything else.

The government should lay off on that kind of stuff if for no other reason than its own corporate self-interest. After all, time I spend screwing with paperwork is time I'm not spending making money ... for them.

The new 1099 requirements apply only to transactions are made in cash or check. If you use a credit card you don't have to report it on a 1099. If you accept credit cards for payment and collect about 20k in transactions then you have to report it on 1099-k.

that this should NEVER have made it into any bill of any kind. Not only will it be a paper nightmare, but the IRS will fine many businesses because they didn't give them out.

I work in a small, family-owned store that sells products that several of our customers make into other things and then sell. Many of our customers spend cash on "a few packages of this" and "a couple feet of that." That all adds up. We don't keep track of how much they spend in a year's time; that shouldn't be any of our business. But, now we're supposed to (well, beginning in 2012)? And if we don't give our customers the 1099Misc, the business will be fined.

It's more convoluted than a maze without an ending.

Congress couldn't get cooperation over what kind of books and other information that people were buying (or borrowing from libraries), so now they'll make us accountable for buying other things? Maybe the two aren't connected, but it isn't too far a stretch of the imagination.

In the meantime, it's no one's business except my own how much I spend on anything for whatever reason.

You don't take any tax deductions from you serial small business mad science but pay 35% of gross income in taxes. How about that? I mean real, real gross not convoluted gross income.

How many small business owners would go for that? Suppose my next door neighbor running an insurance agency would not be able deduct his Cayennne, and his wife's Cadillac Esclade as tax deductions.

Well if you don't track it you can't deduct it. If you can't deduct it you pay the tax on it. I have this discussion all the time with some of my small business owners I do accounting and tax work for. It's a hard lession for some but they eventually get it when I show what the effect of a 20k deduction does to their taxes.

why don't you explain why you think this is garbage. I know what I've read, but I admit I don't know as much about this as I'd like. If you're disagreeing with me, then explain why; educate me, don't just blow me off because you're annoyed.

It sounds like CallNumbers DOES know about this. If you're disagreeing about the subject, please explain why (or what) you're disputing. Give us the reason(s) you disagree. Again, educate us as to why you think it's a horse hockey puck.

Otherwise, don't bother posting. One liners like this make it sound like you're disagreeing just to be disagreeable.

In the meantime, [cue music] "I owe, I owe, so off to work I go!" [end music]

I don't mid paying taxes. I don't actually believe I need the recent increase I got from the tax cut. I would not spend it and I am just going to invest it.

What I do mind is BS Pork. Why don't they cut that out then, we will talk.

As the previous post said, if you don't keep records, you cannot deduct and you pay taxes. Small businesses have done it for eons and those who didn't paid taxes. Horse Manure because someone is digging up horse manure and spreading it. I am not tax guy but, if you itemize deductions, you better have receipts I am sure in order take depreciation, businesses have to actually buy something depreciable and it can't be paper clips, 3 hole punch, stapler, etc. Suppose, you have to have business license and tax number to claim to be business. It is all very inconvenient, why not get rid all of them.

I don't like stopping on Red at Traffic lights, I am not going stop it any more, don't like speed limits, I am going to pay attention, why should I have to stay on the left lane during peak hours, there is no traffic on the right lanes, I am just going to start using right lanes so, I can get home faster.

You know what, someone don't like somethings or don't want to do it, so, they make national crisis of it and that's horse manure.

It is easy criticize everything but hard to solve one thing!

In fact, and I can't believe you don't already know this, most businesses come nowhere even close to a 35% profit. Most, after all is said and done, are turning 10% or less. If you taxed them suddenly on 35% of gross, they'd just fold -- they couldn't stay in business.

Now, if you gave them warning, they would all jack up their prices enough to compensate.

Because -- and here is a revelation for you -- BUSINESSES GET EVERY DIME THEY PAY IN TAXES FROM CONSUMERS.

I happen to be, among other things, in the FOOD business.

Don't you think poor people are having a hard enough time affording healthy food, as evidenced by obesity rates from eating cheap shit?

So -- when this "deal" of yours goes through ... all the food producers will either have to raise their prices 35% to compensate, or go under -- leaving food in control of a couple of huge monopolies who will then be able to jack prices even higher.

Hey -- I don't care. I'll jack up my prices 35% because all my competitors will have to do it too.

What do I care if inner city kids have the highest rates of cancer as they grow older because they can't afford decent food as it is? Hey, I'll just jack up prices so I can stay in business and pay your stupid tax, and those kids can be damned and get even more cancer.

Maybe, as Scrooge would say, they'll just die faster and reduce the surplus population.

The thing that is so astonishing about liberals is how many people they kill without ever realizing it. How many of the people they CLAIM to care about, that they kill.

You are so out of touch with business that you think you would hurt ME with that sort of deal -- but you wouldn't. You'd be passing on the most regressive tax imaginable to those who could least afford it in the form of higher prices for healthy food.
