...who once said that it is impossible for a man to have sex with a woman without raping her.

I would have voted for Jill Stein over Obama, but sadly we have a 2 party system.

...I happen to disagree with her. I think that religion was simply a way to establish brutal rule by way of heirarchies. I think there's simply no question about this when it comes to the Abrahamic faiths.

With the Middle East alone, religion turned a culture that produced most of the world's scientific discoveries into a backwards shit hole that still exists to this day.

In Europe, Christianity is most noted for producing the Dark Ages. It's not an accident that the Renaissance and the Age of Enlightenment happened after the Reformation.

A better case can be made for Eastern religions, but even Buddhism has sexist attitudes, and makes absurd and unscientific claims about the nature of time.

But regardless of how you feel about the history of this, it's certainly clear that modern people do not need religion. Today, religion does nothing but hinder human progress. It is the reason why women's clinics get blown up, doctors get murdered, and why planes get flown into buildings.

Just think of what religion has done to our sexual attitudes. Without religion, human sexuality would just be seen as a normal part of our own biology. Instead, religion has told us that our own biology is wicked and immoral.

Think of how many crazies would be produced if you were taught from birth that breathing was wrong. Or eating. Or passing a bowel movement. If anyone was brought up with those ideas it wouldn't be long before you'd have hyperventilating nutcases who were eating and shitting themselves while strapping on vests to get away from all the madness.

You can't see the forest for the trees. All you see is the negative aspects of religion. You are GREAT at that but you act as if that is the universe. In this respect, your views are pre-Columbus.

But me trying to explain it sufficently to make a difference to you is WAY beyond my ability to express adequeatly in this forum via type written words. That is not my long suit.

I watched a video interview of a couple US servicemen who were in the Ia Drang Valley in 11/65 and just like they were incapable of describing what the noise, confusion, and terror of that battle was like, I find it impossible to impart to you all the societal benefits of religion.

Besides, if you live a good life and dont harm people it becomes somewhat irrelvant anyways, except that your mockery of other good people diminishes you, not them.

...don't do charitable work. But there's nothing about religion that precludes one from charitable work.

Hope” in this case takes the form of chain saws (16 per rig), generators, wheelbarrows for hauling debris out to the curb, and gallons of chemicals for treating for mold. There are also water pumps to remove water from a flooded basement, tarp for damaged roofs, all kinds of battery-operated equipment such as drills, and dozens of other items.

The idea is for relief workers to be self-contained, to take all the things they’ll need – even their own shower stalls. The rigs are packed ahead of time, ready to respond to a disaster anywhere in the country.
