White List

Hi, fellow hobbiests...

I am trying to better understand the TER White List.  My simplistic understanding is that if I am on this list, agencies and independents with whom I haven't previously worked have some sort of a reference about me, which might make them more eager to work with me.

Is that correct so far?

O.K.  One highly respected agency with which I have worked has happily added me to the list.

I have a few questions, and feel free to email me directly or via TER with any insights you are willing to share...

How does a new agency or independent know I am on the White List?  Do I have to tell them, or is there something next to my name that others can see that I can't?

How do I direct an agency or independent to find the information?  Does the agency or independent have to be a TER member, or specfically registered somehow???

Is a referral from one highly respected agency sufficient, or should I ask many other individuals and/or agencies to add my name?

Do people find me by my name or by my TER handle when looking?

Are there other things that I should know about this list?

Sorry for asking what sounds like Newbie questions, but I can't seem to find answers on the Board (maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place).

Thanks.

O.K.  A little more research and I found a partial answer!  I see on the left side a "Search White List" button;  I'd never seen it before.  Please answer any other questions, if you don't mind.

Thanks again.

I am willing to take people with a white list refferal but I ask them to return a pm from me to prove that they are the person they are claiming to be. So if they give me a name I will pm them to that user name and if they pm me back to confirm I will see them. Just something you may want to offer when contacting someone you haven't seen before:)

FWIW.

A white list referral is like a good review. A provider won't ask for it (shouldn't ask for it) and, IMO, a hobbiest should not ask for a WLR. It just happens.

White list searches can use either an email address or TER handle. Kind of nifty! In theory it would allow a client to not disclose their TER handle, since some guys would prefer not to. But, alas, the s/w types at TER decided to display the TER handle that is tied to the email address. IMO, bummer.

Once you HAVE a WLR, you can elect to have it made avaialble for searches or not. I don't remember the screen (and am too lazy to go find it :-), but I think it is controlled under preferences tab.

Finally, and not related to WLR (and this comes up ALOT) - when you post under an alias; people cannot PM you (no little envelope by your "handle" in your post). So, your offer to have people PM you, although considerate, .....well it won't work. Even when you post under a non-aliased handle, if you don't have PM access (VIP membership) people can SEND you messages - but you won't be able to read them (I wish there was a way to denote VIP vs. non VIP posters). Maybe this last bit was already understood, apologies if so.

As others have said, and more will probably say, each lady has their own level of comfort for how much information they require before accepting an appointment. I applaud the ladies for doing everything they need to do to ensure they are comfortable!

First, I only use an alias because several years ago I changed email addresses and thought it would be fun to make a new alias that somewhat matched my new email address.  But, alas, I now see that I have to use my "original" if I want people to PM back.  O.K.  No secrets here;  my "original" handle is "xxxman";  I think most of the reviews I dreamed up were under that handle.  The one I use most of the time is "bfeseeksgfe", partly because it is true!

Thanks all for the info.

And, Mya...

I'm sure you don't remember me, but we visited back when you were trying to run a small agency not too far from Raintree and 101!  A long time ago, it seems!
