We can't allow the right to define the issue, which essentially this article does.  The issue is not exploitation of teens, or white slavery.  We can all agree that that's immoral and wrong.  We need to write letters educating the public and policymakers that there is a legitimate angle (involving consenting adults acting safely and responsibly) to this issue.

I can only say this I have been on two of the three sides of this issue.  First being customer , second being agency owner. I have a very good friend of mine that is a Judge in Santa Clara County in Ca. Hes basically said that alot of the legal stuff you see about it is all show and no go. Basically its the Republicans making it look like to there constituants that there doing something. I. E. the religious freaks of this nation.

When you ask about a response to this issue and it is also a response to many issues in America. We the people with a logical brain that are not religious or heavely moral crusaders fall apart on the networking and forming groups that are very concerned. If we want to change anything in modern America we need to come together out of the shadows of a message board or from behind a keyboard and get some people to speak up and be honest with one another. This goes from issues like health care to abortion to anything.

Right now the adult video industry is getting hit from all sides by this administration. If they realized that more people did not care about this issue they would probably leave it alone. But the only people orginized to make a impack on anything they do hear from are your bible thumbers. So until we as a group and or a society grow some balls and devote a good amount of our hard earned money to buying a voice we will be stomped on.

We need to have a loybist a political action league, people writing emails to there congressmen and there local representives, Buying add space on tv and radio.

If your seeing my point its a costly thing but if you fight it on a front of not one issue or several small issues it is attainable. Also you fight it on a tax revenue platform . So that the government can pay of debt .. Got to think like they do.

Its all about Money.....

There is a desire in many people who participate in this hobby to do something about the underage girls who are forced to work in this business against their will. There is a desire to do something about the human trafficking that goes on in this business. Personally, I will not see someone who I think is less than 25 years old or someone whom I think is here in the US against their will. I think many others may feel the same.

The problem is that the entire industry is seen as being all the same and all women in it are all seen as having the same story (coerced, drug-addicted, abused, trafficked) and so all men are guilty.

There needs to be some way for both clients and providers to work together to address trafficking, abuse of minors, villence and coersion in this industry AND at the same time deamnd decriminialization for this industry. But how????

It is always the bible thumpers that are willing to come together to get their way. The problem is that most of us are of the 'live and let live' mind set.... but that isn't going to protect our rights or save our hobby. Unless we're all willing to get involved openly there will never be a good defense for us.

Honestly its more then just this hobby. If we united for other causes such as this new Supreme Court Nominee Alto ( think thats the name) We could in other ways show we dont like what he stands for.

Womens issues come very close to adult issues its all about sexuality and your civil rights. So with coming out in favor of those issues we also help protect our issues.

I know this sounds like an odd theory but if you show that making end runs at anything sexually related will piss of the voters they will lay off of certain things.

Also for all the ladies that are members or active in places like the sex workers deals around the country they need to realize that they cant include the street walkers in there movement. They actually need to come out against that area of the business very harshly.

if people really want to do something they have to be willing to challenge the mainstream and the laws that they see as morally right. You have to be willing to go to jail and then make a case for it not being illegal and show that its not hurting anyone. its all about showing the government what they are losing a yr.  that comes down to a huge amount of non collected taxes.

Think if they legalized this hobby the use of marrijuana, and stopped going against porn and helped these industries. We could probably see our deficiate completely disappear in just a few short yrs.

The name's Samuel Alito and yes, we do need to get together and try to put a stop to him. I'm with NARAL/Pro-Choice America and I'm helping with a petition urging the Senate to oppose his nomination so if anyone wants to sign just stop by the shop and ask ;o)

You're absolutely right about needing to exclude the street walkers from our movement. We also need to make it clear that we are in no way involved with the minors in the business. We need to educate the public in the reality of the business... we're not poor, helpless victims forced into sex slavery. We're not doig this because we HAVE to. Our clients aren't monsters or animals. Most importantly, this business is not just about sex... it's about pleasure. It's about the pleasure of enjoying another person on a multitude of levels... not just sexually.

I must say i admire your work. My family is quit politically active. my step mother is on the national board of Planned Parenthood. before my miss hap with the law over an escorting agency I was much more active. sadly I see the vision of how to make things and how to direct it but cant seem to mold it. I work for a major adult company along with owning my own company.

I would personally like to figure out how to steer the country to the issues we need to focus on and not these stupid crap things we do.

The moral majority will always have the upper hand but in reality they will never be the majority. They are just the majority on voice and action. my questiion is how do you get the people that are into the hobby and other things that break their moral codes to see the light? Also how do we get people that are in positions of elected offices and reps to see that their there at the will of the people. it seems that along with all of this mess everyone gets bought and sold. So why do we as a hobby not do the simple thing and form our own lobby.. God knows there is enough money in this hobby and the sex industry alone to be a well finianced lobby. If you took the porn money and the money from prostitution that could probably finace close to the whole damm war in Iraq.

If you want hit me up on my email [email protected]   my VIP membership expired today.

There's nothing to be done. The USA is heading into an era of anti-science, anti-privacy nannyism. The GOP, the party of "small government" and "getting the hell out of people's lives", has shown itself to be a bigger government monster than the Democrats ever were. I've lost count of the life long Republicans I know who have re-registered Independent because they gave up that idiotic Party.

There's nowhere left to turn for a libertarian minded guy like myself, and I've given serious thought to moving out of country, especially when I retire in 10 years (fingers crossed). The problem is that this Victorian era crap is taking root elsewhere, or at least anywhere worth living.

Sorry to be a downer, but emails and letters to the editor will accomplish exactly, to quote Kurt Vonnegut, doodley-squat. 99% of humanity already lives in a fog composed of myth, lies and ideological fantasy. Nothing known to science can break it.

At least begin by voting.  The factions do all they can to get their people out to vote.  Over 50% of Americans don't vote in national elections and even more don't vote locally.  This allows small groups with agendas to make the rules because they win the seats.  There are many examples of this across the world where the minority becomes the voice because they vote.  Please begin by always being informed and voting and encouraging others to do the same.  Communicate to young people encouraging them to vote or they will give up their rights to others.

... the moral majotity is NEITHER!!!  They may be organized, and may be vocal, but they do not speak for most Americans.  I now live in England, were reports of sex trafficing come at least once a month.  Let me say it here, I don't believe that I have ever seen, and hope never to do so, seen a provider against her choice.  Forcing women to have sex with men, by any means is WRONG!!!

That said, If I were to ask the 3 most moral people I know, my Mother and Grandparents, is it wrong for an attractive lady (23-45), who has no drug problem, to provide her companionship and body to lonely men, since this provides her the best means of providing for her and her kids, yes most of my favorite providers are moms, and very good moms, they would not approve of her choice, not fully understand it, but given the morality of today, agree that it is not all bad.

(Of course my Mom and Grandparents would never understand me playing the role of the lonely gentleman, so that question will never be asked).

Your right to a tee.. I dont think i really explained my point well. I am so frustrated with this that its hard for me to express it well.

I agree the country is going backwards fast way too fast. But I disagree that we do nothing and move out of the country. To me its worth fighting for.

Your right letters and emails do nothing thet never make it to the person that matters. Usually some college age kid working in there offices making discisions on matters they should not be.

So I pose this question how do we as a group get our point across?

What I find absolutely intriguing is that we have lost 2100+ troops while liberating a country from theologian influence while at the same time, becoming the exact same type of society here at home. The church runs this country, the Catholic church is the biggest land-owner in the world, we have churches threatening to kick parishioners out if they vote democratic, and for some reason completely unknown to me, the Vatican is almost like a separate government and its influence is amazing all across the globe. It's asinine.

Look, I'm not saying escorting is 100% healthy for everyone. I'm not even saying it's 100% healthy for anyone. But for me being single now, this is my "dating" as well as many of yours. I enjoy the companionship, the conversation, the connection above even the point of why you're here, and that part is phenomenal as well. I like to think I'm not the exception, I like to think my sisters in this hobby feel the same. We all get a well-rounded experience most of the time.

Now, what I don't understand is why our government and churches feel like they're entitled to space in our bedrooms. And when did we invite them in there? I've often bitched about the anti-abortion assholes, most of whom are men. Now I've often said that President Bush was never in the room at any point in time when I had an abortion, he was not there holding my hand and in fact, he never knew I had one in 2002. I suspect he stance on the issue would differ greatly if one of his precious little daughters been raped and impregnated. I just want to know what place our government has in our bedrooms, etc. My opinion? NONE. Unless I invite them there. I'd like to think no one has any business in my bedroom unless I invite them there. Moralistic laws need to go. They're outdated and unnecessary. Unless a crime against humanity has been committed, I don't feel like the government has any business intruding.

Now, the question is, how do we get ourselves heard? We live in a sexually oppressed society made up of people who do some things I can't even begin to speculate about, but they're made to feel ashamed and so they'll never speak out. It's a vicious little cycle with the moralists impressing upon us all how morally wrong and wicked we are, and frankly, it works. And this is why the religious right has such a humongous influence. Perhaps if they were made to feel ashamed for their brow beating child molestation (hell, Catholic, and other, priests) we could all get on level ground again. The issue is, how do we get there? How long will it take? And where do we begin?

Megan

There is no similiar country in the world. For whatever reason the US has a distinctly warp theological view. You can find very active "hobby" options (legally) in all of Europe Asia & South America. Some countries like China flip flop....but by and large the rest of the world is pretty tolerant. Sydney has some of the best ***** brothels in the world for example. I could rattle off 20 great countries to retire to.

Dearest Megan, you are truly a sweatheart and a very wonderful person. I admire you thinking. I admire your politics. You have the makings of a Saint and I hope that no one ever does you any harm, but,,,

I doubt that we’ll see any of these horror stories on this board, but everyone one of us knows that they do exist-and there mire existence is shameful and demeaning to rest of us. So, let’s not turn a blind eye. Let’s do something about it!

There are areas in and around the “hobby” that we just don’t want to talk about, and there are many-shall we say-unfortunate, disenfranchised members of society that are-shall we say-insidiously coerced or negotiated by “another” into-shall we say-dating against their will. Some off these “negotiations” are carried out under the guise of “business”, but they are extremely coercive all the same. Often times, the insidious nature of this cohersion is far upscale in sophistication from the cheap thugs and physically abusive pimps portrayed in the article. But it exists right here in this little o’ western community, and it is evil. It is no good…

There are many things worse than the threat of exposure and there are many forms of slavery or-shall we say- abject entrapment. Pandering is pandering. Abuse is abuse; whether it is perpetrated by a sleaze ball, physically and psychologically abusive pimp or a well healed real estate landlord/mogul or an oil rich, rich kid from the Middle East.

Again, it is an unfortunate state of affairs that is shameful and demeaning to our community and it is an area of the hobby that many clients do not want to believe exists. We are not talking about the issues of virtue. There are facets of this issue that go beyond the exchange of money for time well spent. This is an extremely profitable business with lots and lots of money to be made, and unfortunately like many legal enterprises there are always shady characters lurking in the back ground, ready to exploit the honest, conscientious working man. Some ladies ARE victims, no doubt about it! So, let’s not look the other way, let’s do something!! This is America, so let’s saddle up and run the stinking sleaze balls out of town!!!

I agree, wholeheartedly, that pimps need to be prosecuted.  Especially, the ones that are taking all the girls' money.  Most pimps are a**holes and they come in all types.  It's not just street pimps that I'm talking about.  There are the 'agencies', massage parlor owners, cab drivers, boyfriends/husbands who pimp their ladies out, fathers, relatives, internet site owners and the list goes on.  These men/women are mostly abusive and taking advantage of the women in the business and making a huge amount of money off of them.

You are so right, sweetheart. It really is a complex, sordid and unfortunate state affairs; and, it is a topic that is rarely (if ever) addressed on the boards-hmmm, I wonder why?

It's pathetic how many of the "working girls" are used, exploited and continually manipulated to perform against their will; and, it is pathetic, dubious and insidious the way some are sucked into the business. It all seems so innocent and naïve at the beginning (for hobbyist and providers a like) and then, wham-oh, you want to get out but you can’t. The business changes people. It can rob one of self-esteem, genuineness and sincerity.

I know this topoc is unpleasant but I for one would like to see this topic brought to the forefront of the boards. Come on, ladies and gentlemen; let’s lay it on the line. Let’s hear some stories about these sneaky, creeps.
