but please take a moment to reflect on why we have this holiday.

You see a lot of flags and veterans parades on Memorial Day, which is great!  But it is also a time to remember the individual men and women who answered their country's call, but didn't return, and the families they left behind.

When I was a kid, my career Army officer dad had served 2 tours in Viet Nam by the time I was in third grade.  Today this seems normal (and extremely unjust by my reckoning) for reservists and members of the National Guard.  By the grace of God he came back home safely both times.  I have friends who are not so fortunate.

So please take a moment to reflect and remember.

Here in England, where today is simply the "May Bank Holiday", when I go out today, as a proud (though, sometimes critical) American, and a graduate of ASU, I will proudly wear my Pat Tillman #42 jersey.
