E-mail porn spammers get 5 years in prison
The Associated Press
Oct. 12, 2007 01:22 PM

Two men who ran a business that sent millions of unsolicited pornographic e-mails have been sentenced to more than 5 years in federal prison.

The U.S. Department of Justice says Jeffrey A. Kilbride, of Venice, California and James R. Schaffer of Paradise Valley ran the business in Phoenix. But they hid the source of the e-mails, making them look like they were being sent from out of the country.

The e-mails contained hard-core porn pictures, and the men earned commissions when some who got them signed up at pornographic Web sites.

A federal jury found the two 41-year-olds guilty of violating a federal law that cracks down on unsolicited porn, plus conspiracy, fraud and money laundering.

Besides prison, they also were fined and ordered to forfeit $1.1 million they earned from the business.
