Risk on all sides

While I am not an "experienced well known hobbiest" a very good friend of mine back in the midwest is and in fact has help start up 2 agencies. Sedona has brought up some very genuine concerns for providers, there is an equal amount of risk on the hobby side, especially the married ones.

1) dealing with stalkers and having to have them arrested, one actually came to the house of my friend and confronted his wife.

2) dealing with theives

3) dealing with someone abusive

4) dealing with L.E.

5) hobbiests being murdered, robbed and blackmaled or the SO finding out.

6) the information that one has to give a provider, name, place of work, work website, work phone, not being kept in a secure place or better yet not kept anywhere at all.

The last one is another area my friend got caught up in when 2 agencies where busted and his name appeared in several computers that were confiscated.

My ONLY point is that there are risks for every one, if you dont want risk...then there is always your favorite hand.

but statistically the risks fall much much heavier on the provider side. The "client" can control all the risks to a much greater degree...

As an example their is no reason ever that a provider would know where you live or be able to stalk you.

While an active hobbiest might see a gal a week the girls see one or more guys a day. Where we have TER and a host of other ways to validate things the gals have to rely on references etc. While I'm sure that their are "nut case" providers the body of documentation regarding those who prey on providers is massive.

Yes both sides have risk, but 90%+ of it is on the other side of the fence....

I agree...the risk is greater on the provider side. I am sure that more providers are assulted, robbed, and other abuses than hobbiest. I am not trying to minimize the risk on the providers part.
By the way my buddy was stalked after giving information....but knowing him I am sure he used the old "I love you and am going to leave my wife" crap in order to decrease his cost.
He really turned out to be a scum bag

Overtime you tend to be open with those your real comfortable with, so I can see a problem evolving occasionally. I think the biggest danger to a hobbiest is probably the last. I read somewhere that there are ~ 600 serial killers in the US alone at any time....so it wouldnt suprise me if there is a "John wacker" out there somewhere to counter balance all the ones focused on the gals...but you can control the rest pretty well....

But all in all your right, its a hobby that comes with risks. Where it gets freaky is where fiction and reality meet. I have friends that travel the world "mongering"....so when you see a movie like hostel and realize that over the years you (meaning the whole international community) have lost a few guys who were pretty high profile....it makes you wonder just how many folks with "other" hobbies are out there....

So too both sides......

BE SAFE

Danger to providers? Oh, my, yes. The stories are endless:

I knew a provider who traveled to a small foreign country literally half way around the world. She traveled with an incredibly wealthy favored client. This provider thought this wealthy client was totally enthralled with her charms-though she found him physically repulsive. The provider believed that the client would marry her (i.e. second wife. It was a polygamous culture) and set her up in such a fashion that she’d never have to work again-villa, servants and all.

To make a long story short, it was all a pack of lies. She was lucky to get out of the situation alive and retain a modicum of her sanity. (Occasionally, I still work with the poor girl.)

The villa turned into a prison and the servants turned into guards. While in the country she found that her foreign client’s concept and treatment of her changed. It changed drastically. She was subjected to unbelievable coercive and exploitive practices that are culturally sanctioned if practice with infidel females. Her client ended up being what we in the States would call a pimp. Essentially she was working overtime for room and board. Talk about a gilded cage, talk about being coerced into dating against your will. Dating is not the word for it. If you can’t get out, it is slavery, pure and simple. And, the slave traders and masters are sleaze ball scum of the worst kind. Truly, there are many, many more hidden dangers in this business for providers than for clients. The stories are endless. You just never know what’s going to come walking through that door.

Man,I didn't mean to start such a brew ha. Yes this is riskey business,The risk is diminished considerably on both sides with common sense, thinking with your big head and not being greedy. That combined with a forum like this-which if I rememeber was about-fun

I am disappointed. I was all set for a juicy story about band camp. I have always been particularly interested in the different attributes of the various horn sections. Was it a marching band camp? I knew a very thin girl who played the tuba in a marching band. She had these great vibrating lips... She used to carry the whole section with her base lines; that is, until her spit valve got stuck. And, then, there are sax players. Sax players are so incredibly soulful: swinging side to side and up and down in unison, with those feathery plumes on the top of their hats, and all that gold braid. Honestly, I just can’t stand it. It just drives me crazy. Hey, there was this one time when me and our little baton twirling majorette got trapped in a sudden down pour on our way to a home coming performance. She had her Daddy’s station wagon; and, etc., etc. etc…Sorry, I got carried away…
