The latest on XP Sp2..

The installations of SP2 are going much better now. Those of you that have been holding off till it got more stable..you might want to start considering it. A few things that I would recommend.. if your running an off the shelf brand..Dell,Gateway, IBM etc.. go to their websites and review any info, update your drivers to the latest release etc.  If youve got a white box system, go to the motherboard manufactures site to get your updates. Look for updates to your network cards, usb, video but if your going there anyway..always a good idea to update everything. (caution dont touch your BIOS updates unless you know how to do them)

Ive found fewer installation problems if you do the following..
And this is a "generic" recommendation..

1) run a system scan for viruses, check for malware.
2) do a restore point and back up.
3) down load the update (bigfile, or you can pickup free disks at various places around the valley) turn off exising firewall, antivirus, anti-spyware programs etc as these can cause issues on the install and auto config
4) Install the update.
5) Then decide if you want to use the new firewall and security features in XP or shut it off, and turn on your previous applications.
6) Update your firewall, virus def's etc as needed.

There are some good free programs out there..Zonealarm, Spysweeper, Adaware etc.

I dont mind answering questions on this if you have some. You can reach me via email at [email protected]
