Aliases (aliai?)....what's wrong with 'em?

I post under my regular handle a bit, most people recognize it and what types of things I will say, but not many KNOW me, actually know my real name and who I am.  So, how is that handle different than the alias I'm using now?

Yep, TER can post exactly what my handle is at anytime, regardless of which alias I use.  However, what's to stop me from registering with another handle?  Nothing.

I know, I know, cookies and IPs and all that crap.  Does anyone honestly think that IPs can't be spoofed and cookies can't be cleared?  Not all of us are technological novices.  Some of us actually do that kind of thing for a living, and believe me, it isn't that hard.  I'm willing to bet more than a few providers know how to do it.

Besides, I have six computers at home, three different browsers on each, two dedicated IP addresses plus a set of IPs that change daily - basically an umlimited amount of ways to log in to anything with any handle.

Plus, I can remote into a few dozen other computers, providing more opportunity to be on here with multiple registered handles.  Who needs an alias?

What?  A few of you think you could recognize my writing style and out me that way?  Ha Ha!  Try it with this one.  Who am I?  I have over 10 reviews and post almost weekly.  Who am I?  Am I guy or girl, provider or client?  I could add one word to the bottom and almost everyone would instantly know my real handle, but where's the fun in that?

Sheriff Joe? ..Jimmy Hoffa? ... Elvis?... Bill Clinton? .....am I close?..dw

Always has been, probably always will be, hobby-wise anyway. Not Cactus Jack, Just Jack, is how it goes.

It's decidedly unexciting, I assure you.

I don't feel like enough of a figure in the community to need to resort to an alias, 50 foot high or otherwise-I just say what's on my mind and accept the consequences.

Though my firebrand views have mellowed over the years-so I am not likely to incite or offend, like in the good old days.

Those that know me, know. Some even know my *gasp* real name. Those that don't can see me at the next get together if they like. Some even know my *gasp* real name. The "Who am I?" thing bores me-I wouldn't inflict the guessing game on you.

This poster DOES echo my sentiment expressed in an earlier post that pretty much all of this is alias and persona, or should be. After all, most providers aren't walking around using their real names either, are they?

That would be just silly.

I personally question the need for people to have an alias of an alias, but I understand the point made by "Staff"-people want it, they get it.

And the 50 footer is right about maintaining your privacy if you have the requisite technical skills-which I do not.

As to who the mystery alias person is, I could make an educated guess, based on what he posted. That might be fun...

And if I am right, Mr Mystery, the answer to your recent email you sent me is as follows:

"I haven't seen or heard from Skylor in a long time".

If I'm wrong-well, it certainly isn't the first time.

Or the last.

Since it'll be tomorrow till anyone sees this, Happy Friday.

*I could type out "JustJack", but I'm lazy.

The only reason that came to mind was because the writing seemed similar. I guess that just goes to show the amateur PI's out there that similar writing does not an alias make.

For the record, I won't ever use an alias either. I have enough balls and breasts to take credit for any opinion I have.  Respect to those others in our community cut from they same set.

Megan

I have been mis-identified as several different people over the years-just wanted to make it clear who I was.

Or who I was not.
I only want the reputation I earn, good or bad.

I have always had respect for your forthright opinions-it's refreshing to know exactly where someone stands.

I hope to meet you in person one day.

The problem isnt the alias in and of itself, we all have alias's. More than a few people know my real name and im fairly certain most of the people i go toe to toe with on here do.
The problem with an alias is it encourages assheads to act ike well ass heads. It's a shame that given a modicum of anonimity that some people will abuse it to the point of idiocy, it is however very much the case on this board at least.
I personally think removing alias's will make the average asshead behave more like a civil member of our little society hence my support for their removal.
