To those of you who have been writing and trying to set up appts with me and haven't had any luck, I do sincerely apologize! I have spent the last 5 months in the hospital with a disease called pseudotumor cerebri. Don't worry, its not a tumor, its just excess spinal fluid that my body is creating that goes straight to the brain for lack of anywhere else to go! It started out as terrible headaches, we thought they were migraines, then someone decided to do a spinal tap...fun! Not really, but that is how it was discovered.
Since the spinal fluid goes to the brain, it pushes on the patuitary glands and optic nerves causing loss of vision. When this all started, I was at 45% loss...I am now at %70 vision loss. One can eventually lose 100%. But we're gonna think positive! This obviously making it hard to be online for long periods of time, and believe it or not, I can't even drive anymore. That is why I have had to cancel appts, or just let people down. It's amazing what we take advantage of every day huh...
I fealt like I needed to come on here and explain because nobody has heard from me in months! AZDiana came up to visit me in the hospital when this all first started...and Mya kept in contact with me while I was in the first hospital, but bless her heart, she is one busy lady...and she tried so hard to come see me, but she was going a million mph as always....Thanks for the thought Mya, thats what counts! And thank you Diana for coming and seeing me!
After the first hospital visit I just didn't want to burden anyone, nobody wants to hear bad news all the time right..lol..I know I don't. So I spent three more months in the hospital, this time at Good Sam in phx instead of out here in the valley. I have had three surgeries, first one to place a shunt in my spine to drain the excess fluid into my abdomen, didnt work, was home three days and went back for another 3 weeks, got a second shunt and that one seems to be working ok. Unfortunately I wish that was it for the hospital visits though, complications always keep you going back...It's a medical scam I swear! LOL...just kidding!
Ok, so now that I have taught everyone something new today, I have a few more things to say...this disease does not pick on obese people, old people, young people, tall or short. Men or women! So if any of you ever start sufferring from what you would think is the most terrible head pain you have ever experienced and it doesnt go away....(Mine lasted for 43 days before they did a spinal tap!) Make sure you go to your doctor and be checked....This is a disease that can eventually be controlled and in some cases it is caused by something..and once that something is figured out and fixed, then its gone! I unfortunately don't have that type.
But, I do have to tell you that the chances of getting rid of this disease by losing an extreme amt of weight is very very high for ME..I am going to have gastric bypass surgery in the next month. Lots of hard work to come, but I will come out of this all with a brand new healthy and hopefully painfree life...not to mention...I'll be pretty damn sexy too! lol...anyway, enough is enough. Just in case anybody is interested in finding out more about this disease, I will post the link so that you can check it out! Remember, this is an individualized disease and you don't have to be a BBW to get it!
