I told you so. Is it now time for an orginization? How many more busts, raids and free advertising for Sheriff Jackass are we going to allow?
This is 1980's revisited. Expect all massage parlors, legit or not to be closed within 6 months, every advertisor in the Beat to be raided within three months. We igonred the first wave, and my guess is we will blah...blah....blah.... here for a week an ignore the second wave.
Should any of this really surprise any of us? Of course we are all concerned for one another and for ourselves, but we all know the consequences of our actions. We know the law and we know what can happen if we are not careful. It really breaks my heart to hear so many people who live in fear. We all speed every day, we all drive after having consumed alcohol, and many of us participate in other illegal activities as well. We know what the outcome will be if we get caught. This is no different. We all have a CHOICE and should be living our lives in such away that we accept responsibility for our actions, whether we like it or not. I am not saying that any of those ladies and gentlemen deserve any of this, but, unfortunately, those are my feelings, not the law. Do I wish it were different, OF COURSE. Right now, it's not and until it is, we all need to QUIETLY live our lives and do so in a way that protects us and one another.
Kandee I agree with what you say, but right know our beloved Sheriff Joe has stepped into some real shit, and while the smell is fresh in the publics mind lets do what we can to make sure he doesn't try this again.
and organizing ourselves so that we can effectively work towards changing people's views of the business and of the people involved in it. As an organized group we can also learn what needs to be done to get laws changed and put things into motion instead of just letting our personal rights be stolen from us. It's been done throughout history and right up to date. Look at the gays, look at abortion... they're ongoing fights for what those groups believe in. Why should we be any different?
I think I have meet a couple of people on this post and have e mailed everyone but Kandee. We need to come togather as a block of people to stand up for the rights of everyone. If we don't support each other who will?
Of all the replies, I have to go "against the grain" with Kandee. What makes a democratic society work is the fact that EVERYBODY follows the law/pays the consequences of breaking the law, regardless of whether they voted for it, agree with it, etc. Whether the laws in question serve any purpose or infringe on anyone's "rights" is debatable, but those laws were here before us and will probably be here after us, and like it or not, we all choose to live in the Phoenix, AZ, USA (as opposed to Amsterdam, etc.)
I also agree with Kandee's sentiment about accepting personal responsibility - if we all did that more often (instead of constantly portraying ourselves as victims), we would not need so many laws to begin with . . . but that is another story.
