This is old news. Yes it is a stupid way of doing business. If i owned a pharmacy, I would not hire a pharmacist that would not fill all perscriptions. On the other hand, this is in no way a life threatening situation. The pharmacist MUST advise you where there is a pharmacy nearby that will fill your medication. Yesw it is a moral issue, and we all have different moarls.
Think of it the same as a man going to a prostitute and demanding B/D and anal. If the provider does not provide these services, should he just take them anyway, or should he go to a different provider that is more correct for his wishes?
Did you know..... In as many as 20 states, pharmacies can refuse to fill women’s prescriptions for contraception, including the morning-after pill.
Check out the link, and take a moment to send the form letter to those pharmacy chains, demanding your right to obtain medication that your doctor has perscribed.
Men have one option, the over the counter condom sales rack. No one is stopping them from purchasing condoms, or from getting surgery to ensure they won't be able to impregnate anyone.
Why is it when it comes to women our government thinks they need to protect and mandate the female populations "morality"?
Be sure and view the short flash video also, it will give you an idea of how as women we have had to fight for our rights.
Malissa have you ever considered that the Pharmacist also has a right to choose. A right to choose NOT to fill a prescrition that goes agaisnt his/her moral beliefs. Aparrently not. You speak of options but you leave the Pharmacist with none. Also pharmacy chains have a right to conduct business as thet see fit. If it chooses not to stock a medication because of potential liability or medical considerations that is there business. If you disagree go to another pharmacy. Please don't FORCE your beliefs down others throats. Thanks Mrsuds2u ( a Phoenix Pharmacist who would fill your Rx)
force anyone to do anything they felt went against their beliefs system. However, it is my opinion (yep I have a few, and you know what they say about them)that if you have a legal and valid perscription from your physician then you should be able to go to any pharmacy and get it filled. In my opinion it shouldn't come down to a moral issue. When we as a country decide to legislate morality, even on the smallest level we are forcing our belief system down others throats. What pains me is the fact that to my knowledge there aren't any pharmacies that are not selling condoms due to moral beliefs, or not filling perscriptions for viagra, cialis, etc, due to moral beliefs. But when it comes to women, our country has a long history of trying to impose a moral line that we must walk. In actuality I don't need either birth controll pills or the morning after pill, since I have been sterilized for more than 12 yrs now. But If I was at the time of my life when I might need those medications, I would like to be the one who chooses If I use them or not. Our country is a dicodomy, in the fact that to the rest of the world we are the most puritanical when it comes to our sexual health. Yet we have some of the highest unplanned pregnancy rates. What if pharmacists or pharmacies decided not to sell certain antibiotics or drugs that cured or helped with std's or aids due to moral issues with themselves or a belief that the people that need such medication were immoral? What would happen if we let moralistic beliefs creep into all venues or stores, physicians, pharmacists, professions of all sorts? But I digress. By making the above post I was giving, sharing information for those who choose to take from it what they wanted. I appreciate your comments as well, as you and everyone out there is entitled to their opinions. As a woman and an intelligent human being I don't want someone else to decide what is moral or immoral for my personal life. Peace,Passion and Love, Malissa xoxox P.S. the pharmacists oath makes no mention of "a moral code" to dispensing medication to the public. At this time, I vow to devote my professional life to the service of all humankind through the profession of pharmacy.
I will consider the welfare of humanity and relief of human suffering my primary concerns.
I will apply my knowledge, experience, and skills to the best of my ability to assure optimal drug therapy outcomes for the patients I serve.
AI will keep abreast of developments and maintain professional competency in my profession of pharmacy.
I will embrace and advocate change in the professional of pharmacy that improves patient care.
I take these vows voluntarily with the full realization of responsiblity with which I am entrusted by the public.
