I was chatting with a civilian yesterday about the hobby (Geez - how quickly I succumb to the lingo of the sport!), and he asked why the term "hobby" was used define this activity. I have searched the messages and the Newbie board and can't find any info on this. Do you "veterans" of the sport have any insight or info on the origin of the term "hobby" as it relates to this activity?
According to the American Heritage Dictionary a hobby is defined as: hobᄋby1 n. pl., hobᄋbies. An activity or interest pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure. –hobbyᄋist n.
Now if that doesn't sum up the whole thing in a nutshell (or sac) then I don't know what else you would call it! LOL
