Personal from business,
though this is a personal business,
boundaries are in place
to keep personal from business,
to keep identities hidden,
to keep lives hidden,
to keep feelings hidden,
to keep business from
becoming personal

Hey, I like it! There is a lot of TRUTH in your poem, and it is a real truth that is not often mentioned on these boards.
.
Your poem describes a condition that’s been around since the inception of the world’s “oldest profession”. It is a condition that sneaks-ups on the ladies.

The nature of this business demands that escorts “disassociate” their feelings in personal encounters where personal feelings would normaly be at their height. Simply put, if this is done often enough, the part of an escort’s brain that “feels” becomes numb; or, worse yet, it shuts down. Feelings become bland or non-existent. The part of your “being” that “feels” just doesn’t work very well. In a since, it is like trying to walk on a sprained ankle. You can do it, but it’s no fun. You can do it, but it hurts. To put it another way, for many providers, the normal, everyday, ways of expressing personal affection no-longer work as they should. Lives become blank. All the acting makes it so.

This condition is a hazard of the profession. It can manifest itself in a whole variety of compensatory behaviors, like spiritual quests, immersion in esoteric intellectual pursuits, problems with body image, drug and alcohol abuse, etc. The list goes on and on.  It is a psychological malady that has the potential to lead to some pretty sever problems.

Often times we see adds where an escort claims she really enjoys her work. She enjoys the travel, the “interesting people, etc. This is usually followed by a rationalization that is- more often than not-an economic expedient that is directed at the specific type of clientele the escort is trying to reach (buyer beware!). It has been my experience that this is a red flag. It is a round-about, circuitous denial of reality and the TRUTH. So, here we are back to your TRUTH; and, your very genuine, sincere and HONEST poem. We should all thank you for your candor… PEACE
