All my customers expect some level of software. Either CMS (content management system), Ecommerce, data collection, etc..

My idea of basic would include CMS and data collection.

Granted if you get into linked perpetual inventory systems, warehouse management systems, or any of the higher end integrations then we are talking considerably more.

I don’t usually do a design and layout only site, but when I do they usually start at 2k. I personally have never seen CI templating done for less. I don’t usually accept CI template work because it’s the return on investment is so low.

As far as savvy, they consider me cheap. I have had over 1200 customers and I am currently booked into January.

In the past 3 years, my Ecommerce customers have ran over 23M in revenue through my systems.

As for hosting, no I don’t do hosting, although I do have brand new collocation facilities in the Scottsdale airpark area. All of my customers, with the exception of one, currently own their own servers and most have their own network facilities. I currently only have one customer who has two leased dedicated servers.

But hey, like I said I have no idea what the low end market is like anymore.

BTW, I agree, Glen’s sites are ok but a bit formulaic. There is so much similarity in the design between sites. If I didn’t know better I would think they were all from the same agency rather than independents simply using the same designer.

If I was a traveling to phoenix rather than being from the area, I probably wouldn’t know better.

Also the flash galleries are a bit bulky. If I was stuck in a hotel room with lower speed access I would never bother waiting on them to load. As a hobbyist who participates when traveling, these issues would probably impact my patronage.

I would recommend mixing up the design a bit. Try to keep the look and feel of the site unique. Also remember that traveling hobbyists don’t always have the luxury of a broadband connection.

What I would love to see more often is the ability to book and pay for an appointment online. I can’t tell you how much it adds to the GFE experience when everything is arranged in advance. She shows up at the door like an old girlfriend, no tap dancing, no fuss. I have had the privilege of meeting providers in this manner only a few times. When I do I always book more than enough time so that I can take her out and fulfill my ‘sugar daddy’ fantasies.

He guys, just a quick question. I have a great 18 year old kid who works for me and he's very creative on the computer. I want him to do web design to make a little extra cash.  If he charged someone $300-$400 to set-up a website would there be any interest?  Thanks for feedback.

What kind of websites would he be setting up? Girl's sites? If so... Maybe it's just me- but I am partial to Glen. Everyone knows him, everyone has seen what awesome work he does and there is no need to search elsewhere. Thanks again Glen for my new site! EVERYONE loves it!

My pleasure to work with such beautiful subject matter :)

Glen

That seems way too low to me. I currently charge 5-15K for a basic site with CMS, data capture, and Ecommerce. Even if I only do layout and design I charge at least 2k. I have no idea what the low end market is like anymore but my customers think I am cheap.

If he is any good I suggest you up the price or he won’t be taken seriously.

Just my ¢2.

wow....

Be glad your customers aren't savvy...thats not ment as a knock or slam. A sophisticated site can easily run well into 6 figures when all is said and done but if your getting 5k+ for a "basic" site (development only, no hosting/software) then your doing well.

I would be willing to bet that none of the girls locally is paying anything close to 5-15K I would be suprised if it is 1K.
If you notice most of the sites by one person are pretty cookie cutter and probably a simple program of cut and paste. Not to say I don't enjoy the sites Glen, Isabella,...(not going to try to mention everyone so don't be offended) I enjoy their work and thier site are quite nice but they are not requiring any programing or expertise. These people are just providing creativity and I would guess the 300 person is the same.

Oh I did mention Isabella because she is so cute. I want to kiss up allot so when I finally meet her she will think I'm sweet...blush...Oh and I love the sites she did especially hers she has an artists heart needing expression...

Hey Occular, my friend, you're right to try to kiss up to Isabella. Better, though to kiss her. And you're right about her creativity -- both her sites and her sights. Truly a knockout whose heart is always expressing....

Thanks for the insight. I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend.

But, then that isn't my primary source of income and I really, really enjoy it.  I could also add ecommerce (online store) and wouldn't charge one cent more.

Not bad and main thing is its different from some of the same-old crap I've seen. Couldn't be bothered waiting for the flash download -but apart from that you've probably got a 2nd career lined up. Just remember your marketing to men-
1)phots important (1st page to visit) - important to get the image in there - are we a hopeless slut or a sensual women that needs to be seduced by a candle lit wine dinner.
2) Building on that you need a little about yourself to interst the mail ego.
3) Contact page.
4) Pricing. But we know some of those pricing lists are for suckers only.
Basically that's it for the market. Waiting for a god damn butterfly to land on a flash page is not my idea of entertainment. Might work if you're looking for female customers.

The butterfly flash isn't one of my sites...not sure if you knew that. As for the image...I think that comes across quite well.  Not sure if you were giving general comments or directly to my sites.  But, nevertheless, I appreciate you taking the time to critique them.  Always open to constructive criticism.

If your talking about donna's site...
Effects like the butterfly..should be singular independant events..and not an indication of the page waiting to load.  Some things load, then play at a predetermined speed and timing.. the butterfly moves as fast on a dial up as it does highspeed.. your seeing predetermined frame rates.. Try moving your mouse, click on areas that are there..and see. :)

I'm in that line of work too.  Noticed a lot of the women using the same basic design - with slightly different layouts. The mass producable ones shouldn't cost much more than 1k and that would be mainly for laying out the photos. I've seen a few home mades that are probably in the $300-400 price range your looking at. Some nasty overdone flash crap out there too. But if your kid has a good understanding of html - my guess is the going rate is probably $600 to $800 for anything decent.
