Hello Recall Supporters!
Tuesday, February 22nd, the Committee to Recall
Arpaio held it’s second meeting for the
planning of the recall campaign of Joe Arpaio
as Maricopa County Sheriff. We’d like to share
with you the summary of ideas, suggestions and
plans that were discussed.
First thing on the agenda was building a strong
email mailing list with the intention of using
email as a means of communication between the
Recall Committee and it’s supporters. We have
a growing list of names but would like to add
more and would like to provide supporters with
weekly updates as to the progress of the recall
campaign. If you have received this email in
error and would like to be removed from the
list, please respond to this email with the
word, “unsubscribe” in the subject line and
your name will be removed. Additionally, if
you know of anyone who would like to be added
to the mailing list, please forward them this
email or let us know who to add and their email
address.
The next thing we talked about was the success
of the Evan Mecham recall campaign. The Mecham
recall was so highly publicized in the months
before the petition was filed that by the time
they began gathering signatures, people were
asking petitioners if that was the Mecham
petition and could they sign it! We’d like to
see something similar with the Arpaio recall.
We would like to hold a press conference each
week. We will expose a new story each week and
provide as many details as possible, including
video for the media. All local news stations
and newspapers will be notified. Although we
do not expect the AZ Republic to do much (as
they have always done) we hope that they jump
on the bandwagon after they realize that the
other local newspapers cover these stories
continuously. Arpaio has used the media to
manipulate the public. He uses one liners and
sound bites that sound good but he comes across
as arrogant and calloused. We’d like to use
that same media machine to help
us educate the public as why Arpaio should be
recalled.
That brings us to another point, if any of our
supporters have any stories of abuse that has
occurred in the jails or any testimonials they
would be willing to publicly share, please let
us know and we will review them and decide
which to release to the media. Some things
that we are interested in are finding females
who have lost pregnancies while in Tent City,
Estrella and the other jails, or inmates who
have died not receiving medication. If you
know anyone willing to talk to us, please let
us know!
Another topic was the website. Our plans for
the website include a place where one can
download their own petition, sign up for
volunteering (to gather signatures), donate
money to the Recall Arpaio political action
committee (we need funds to pay for signature
gatherers, flyers, printing costs, etc.,.), and
a place where anyone who visits the site will
have the opportunity to download media clips to
see for themselves how Arpaio has caught
himself in his own lies over the past 13 yearsÂ…
Currently, the media library is being
established, and if anyone has any particularly
good video clips they think deserve to be on
the website, please let us know and we will
review them and consider adding them to the
library. The timeline for the website is,
hopefully, early March but may be mid to late
March depending on how smoothly the information
gathering process goes. Suggestions for the
website are welcome! One suggestion that we
had was to have a place where folks can give
testimonials and tell us why they think Joe Arpaio
is now senile!! (one example was that someone he has
known for years, or sees on a daily basis he
suddenly can’t remember their nameÂ…another was
offering to give Arpaio a competency exam that
we would pay for to see if he really is
competent to hold that office!) As soon as the
website is up, we will send out an email to let
everyone know.
For all of the supporters who would like to
know how they can help before the signature
gathering starts, we are in need of printing
services (flyers, t-shirts either discounted or
free) and fundraisers!! If you know anyone who
would be willing to contribute, please
encourage them to do so! We can accept
donations in ANY amount and checks or money
orders can be sent to: The Committee to Recall
Arpaio, 3434 W. Anthem Way, Suite 118, Box 245,
Anthem AZ 85086.
We are still in the early stages of the recall
campaign but want to express our gratitude and
appreciation to all of you who have pledged
your support to the campaign. Thank you so
much! It is clear that there is a large and
growing number of us who would like to see
Arpaio voted out of office!!
Sincerely,
The Committee to Recall Arpaio
