END OF MESSAGE

I want to buy an engagement ring.  Where is a nice place to buy one?  What would be a good price for one?  $10,000?

Thanks!
joey

$30,000.....If you make $250,000 per year then $60K.......If you make $40,000 / year, then $10,000 is fine....at least thats what all of my ex wives expected

Yes Megan, Tiffany's sucks & remember she gets the house if the BIG "D" happens !!

It seems like Dingus & I share something in common that being Ex's !!

Graff Diamonds is The Rolls Royce of diamond retailers as you can buy a 1KT red diamond for about $100K !!

WARNING: Do not bring your SO to Graff Diamonds unless your last name is Gates, Winfrey (yes, she does buy her diamonds there or Silverman !!

or any of the 401K or any of the other stuff women apparently ask for in divorce. For two kids, she received $400/month in child support. I've never been married, but I've been engaged and had long term relationships. I've never left with anything I didn't bring into the relationship. That includes things mutually bought. I prefer to make my own living, my own way through life and I'm not interested in being a needy, dependent woman. No thanks.

So.......don't generalize. Not all women get the house, and not all women want huge, expensive diamonds either. Perhaps you (general) ought to marry one who loves YOU and not what your wallet can put on her finger. In my opinion, three months salary is a bullshit advertising ploy lining jewelers pockets.

Megan

Tiffany & Co., that way if (when) you get divorced, she can sell the ring and put a down payment on the new house she'll probably buy. :)

Not that I'm a cynic. Good luck, either way.

Meg

Dingus is correct as it is three months of your income if you can afford it.

If you do not know anyone in the diamond business than go to http://www.bluenile.com as they sell crap to a perfect stone.

Make sure you educate yourself as Blue Nile is great in doing that & Teach4U is not certfied to "teach" you about diamonds (LOL) !!

Make sure the diamond is GIA certifed as that really is the title to the stone.

Remember the three out of four "C's" are most important which are cut, clearty & color with "D" being the best color  but for $10K I would go for an "F"-VS2.

DO NOT buy a stone from Tiffany's as there stones are marked-up 100% but the simple Tiffany platium band is in vouge & should cost you no more than $500.00 to $700.00. Most women wear a size six.

Good luck & feel free to pm me as I will ck out true wholesale cost for you.

like smart_ass is recomending. I mean, dude, you've gotta have your head examined if your recomending people go to a RETAIL establishment.....Geez!  WTF! Only smart_ass would recomend a retail establishment.

I never said "retail" as Blue Nile sells there diamond very little over "Rap" (if you know what that is ??).

This member needs to watch out & even more so at this time of the year. Have you seen a lasered stone which is used to remove carbon. Now that stone is worthless !! He needs to be aware of that !!

Did you know that Tiffany's marks-up there diamond 100% as I have a friend who is a buyer for them but he does have a list from Tiffany's on what they will or will not except.

Mr. Delta you seem to enjoy slamming me which I am sure "Teach" is behind that but remember who taught him everthing he knows in this game but I give him credit as he learned very quick & make sure to tell him his dream date w/SS could of happened !!

Are you also scared of a PSE ??

I your budget is 10K I would sugguest Costco or Sams club

go for a minimum of one carat, select color and clarity.  If it is within your price range - buy it.  If she is not pleased, find one who would be.

All I know of diamonds is that I've bought enough of them.  You guys are a friendly little community.  Most of the other boards would have at least one true smart-ass tell you not to buy the ring at all.

Fear not; I'll play that role.  There are many fine Phoenix ladies at say $3-400/hour.  At 10k for a ring, you could cuddle with all of the desert's finest for quite some time...good luck whichever way you head...

How did buying a diamond turn into escorts fee ??

The only thing they have in common is you better do your homework or you will walk away with a one (RIPP-OFF) !!

Isn't marriage the leading cause of men seeing escorts???  Like the old Fram oil filter commercial...you can pay me now, or pay me later

Ask to look at the Rappaport diamond valuation publication.  All jewelers have it.  If you are determined and a good buyer you may be able to find one at 30% below it.  In any case you should look at the report to see what the diamond you are looking for is worth.  Note that a .99 sells for less per carat than a 1.0.  Rappaport is the Blue Book for diamonds.  Most small diamonds do not have a GIA appraisal so expect the diamond you are looking at to be a little overrated and value it accordingly.

A fine diamond will at times even cost the diamond dealer more than Rap. Whan using the Rap. you use only round for round as they are the highest in cost & all other fancy cuts you use pear. Clay is correct as a .99ct cost less than a 1ct as the cost of the stone goes higher after ever .25ct.

I had a .52ct E-SI1 diamond and it did have a GIA report as most diamonds now over .50 do have a GIA report & even some have The GIA Cert. # lasered into the stone as dealer have been known to switch certs.

Like I said do your homework !!
