Locals should get a better rate, but in lue of that I just take the high demand weeks off of see a regular that doesn't play the "price" game

I was going to contact someone that I'd planned on meeting last month but was a last minute cancel due to illness on her part, but noticed her rates went up 50%.

Classic car auctions, Spring Training, Snowbirds, Room rates, etc. all have an impact on supply and demand, I get it.

Would it be rude or tacky to contact her and inquire about the prior rate, or just accept it and move on

if you have previously seen the provider and she remembers you.  It don't hurt to ask.

Consider asking if you could fill an empty spot in her schedule. Filling in non-productive time, she doesn't give up in coming cash, increases cash flow, and demonstrates willingness to honor the prior contract, agreement.

If not, perhaps she could let you know when peak season rates go back to normal?

To start with, I'm keenly aware how time really IS money for some people, and have no desire to diminish their cash flow. Likewise I try and be careful of not inadvertently trying to negotiate a lower rate.

BUT, one never knows what another will perceive as inappropriate, rude or tacky?

I do not remember how long peak season pricing will last? If there are others at the top of your list that will occupy your funding till non-peak pricing starts again, perhaps the safest route is simply "Solder-ON!" till then?
