In Illinois, the so-called EndDemand group has successfully put a bill on the Governor’s desk establishing a felony penalty for the FIRST OFFENSE of patronizing a prostitute. There has been a lot of discussion on the Chicago Board and the P&R Board on this.
The main point is that this bill will become law if the Governor doesn’t amend it or change it by August 24. Making this problem worse, the language is buried in a bill aimed at trafficking and juvenile prostitution – things that everyone opposes. So, before the community is the uphill fight of asking the Governor to pass the good parts of a bill, while amending away the bad parts.
This issue crosses geographic boundaries, and that’s why I’m posting here. EndDemand has the eponymous goal of ending demand EVERYWHERE. This bill is coming to your state, and Illinois will be the model.
