although I'm not that dirty...After yesterday's drama I've decided to discuss the couple of times I've used an alias...Once as "Clockwatcher" about the difference in posting times and the actual time of day (thanks for your response Jazz) and once as "Blitzen01" about a fake review of a reindeer during Christmas... That's it, never as anyone else and never again as I have deleted the alias'... I've never started a mean thread about anyone...Thanks Vic, you are the voice of reason and it's a shame to see you go- Anybody else want to clear the air?

IMHO.... the "alias" feature should be eliminated. If ya can't Post using your real TER handle, then DON'T post!

great idea, no alias' - period.  This has been suggested in the past with no action.  What a shame, another case of not standing up for what is good for the board and the people who post here.  I could go on, but I am sure I would get moderated or kicked off.

I actually posted my aliases last year (3/10/2006 5:03:20 PM to be exact)

So I'll copy that here with all aliases created after that added to the list:

In the interest of full disclosure...
All of my aliases listed for your reference(with explanations).

Only three (Edit: now four) of my aliases have ever been used on the boards...

"salai": The first alias I ever made, used three or four times on the Atlanta boards used in one thread and then a follow-up thread someone started (I used this so as to not have anyone I was associated with given hell for my opinions or anything..but those that knew it was my alias said everyone could figure it out as I still wrote exactly like me).  It is an anagram of "alias".

"Webbienezer Scrooge": Made for Christmas, used primarily in chat, and once to make a Christmas post on the General Discussion Board. (used in chat and on the Las Vegas boards as well this past Christmas)

"OB/GYN Kenobi": Made because I liked it...used twice, once in the "Aliases Thread" on the Gerneral Discussion Boards, and once in a thread about the "Aliases Thread" on The General Discussion Boards.

**"The Neurotic Review" created (after my first post about my aliases) and used once on the Las Vegas boards...signed that post with my actual username.

The following have only been used in chat...

"WebWolfie": Wolfie is actually my nickname, I use this name on other boards, and I will use it in chat when anyone is bothered or offended by "WebTerrorist", or when a lot of people in chat are using animal names and aliases.

"WereWebbie" and "WereWolfie": Used during full moons.

"Wevvis":  Created based on a typo someone in chat made when saying hello to me...had to done.

**Aliases used in chat since this post was originally made:

"Glad_I_ate_her" a joke with a chatter who had a username of "Gladiator".

"theweb" created to mock a guy chat that spoke in the third person and asked about how to get his "story straight" for his imaginary person (his username) so that he would have the answers for his fictional character when he called an agency...to my mind he earned more than a bit of mocking with that.

"Vagina Non Grata" self-explanatory...I am the Vagina Non Grata.

"Webba" an alias created because it is what a lady in chat calls me.

"WebTroll" a nod to Mr blue_iceman001, for the name he christened me in his post on 1/28/2007 1:05:16 PM...though he has since edited that post, I shall keep the alias in his honor.

Next three Aliases I have never had occasion to use but have just in case, and I like em.

"NegativeNarcissist": Because it's all about me but in really, really bad ways.

"DaWebbie": Since "Webbie" is what people call me, but has already been taken. (edited to add I did use this name once in chat)

"LeslieBien": A great name and perfect should there ever be a lesbian thread I have to post in, and feel like using an alias.

So there ya have it...all my aliases, so you will always know it's me.  *grin*

Or maybe it was somebody less creative than I?

(unlikely, though - I'm pretty much bottom of the barrel when it comes to creativity).

I propose that aliases still be allowed, but that they must be created by WebTerrorist.  This will cut down on their use, and when they are used, they'll be much more entertaining!

What's the use of all of these people, who have never done anything negative with an alias, confessing to (and perhaps giving up) their aliases?  I don't see anybody confessing to misusing them.

As I understand it (I actually missed the train wreck) the nastygrams that were posted yesterday came from someone with an envelope by their name, which means it wasn't an alias.  In other words, you're missing the point.

Yes, aliases are sometimes used for cowardly purposes, but Dingus (fairly recently) made it clear that he will, under the right circumstances, reveal the offender's real profile name if it gets out of hand.  In this case, somebody with an agenda created a new account.  (Undoubtedly just a free one...envelopes show up even if the member is non-VIP and doesn't get mail.)  He/she obviously wanted to offend, and succeeded.  Eliminating aliases will not keep anyone here from doing the same thing in the future, and anybody with a couple vibrating brain cells can figure out how to get a new IP address before logging onto their alter-ego account.

Also, there are folks in this community who give valuable, useful information under an alias, for legitimate reasons.  Some of those reasons relate to privacy, and some are concerned with relationships.  For example, if a provider strongly disagrees with something posted by one of her regular clients about another provider, should she have to choose between alienating the client and staying silent?  (That same scenario can be flipped, as well.)  Sometimes knowing the identity of the poster would cause people to mistakenly believe that he/she is speaking on behalf of someone whom he/she sees regularly.  In my opinion, those are legitimate concerns.

Finally, as WebTerrorist ably demonstrated, sometimes an alias can be just downright hilarious.  Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The reason I posted this was to let the community know where I personally stand on the issue of alias'... I agree that when used for the sake of privacy or humor they are appropriate... But when they are used just to slam someone they need to be dealt with  immediately- just not soon enough to keep Victoria around for us to all enjoy... The main problem as I see it was there were 2 SleepyCa31 or SleepyCat13 or some variation  and the slight variation in names was not noticed by most everyone- What followed was a real clusterf*@k...
I think one or both of these Sleepys are now banned.. Not sure though- Just a shame Vic got caught in the crossfire and I don't blame her for wanted to take a break- At least I hope it's just a break-
