No break! They selectively go after things...

This is a recent article about our cities crime rates, in particular homicide. If they can get 500+ officers to raid suspected prostitution, why can't they get enough officers to solve these violent crimes??

Most officers and detectives do what their superiors tell them to; if they don't they find themselves on the street. Ultimately those superiors are elected or public officials with their own political agendas that can clash seriously with the personal beliefs of those on the street. The job can be tedious and sometimes dangerous on a pay scale that is (almost) insulting. It is so easy put the onus and blame on the cops serving the warrants but the anger should be directed to the political system behind it. In this case it seems to be a somewhat personal agenda or vendetta of Sheriff Joe - so next time elections come around we can express ourselves at the ballot!

Sadly, Phoenix still ranks in the top 10 on the FBI city crime rate scale :(

and if you read the article, you'll see that they even told one guy not to bring his buddy who just got back from Iraq since "he deserved better than to spend time in jail".  Like the guy who did come and got busted deserved it any MORE than the other guy they went out of their way to keep from getting busted???

The argument about not blaming the officers because their superiors told them, doesn't work in this situation any more than it did in the cases of soldiers in Nazi Germany.  LE selectively enforces crimes all the time.  Know that, Understand that.

Now, if we could just get the people who sit on juries to stop returning guilty verdicts in cases of stuff like this, (jury nullification) it'd go the way of prohibition.

If the courts can't get convictions for marjuana use, prostitution, steroids etc, they'll stop pouring time and money into it.  Remember that next time you get on a jury.

"Now, if we could just get the people who sit on juries to stop returning guilty verdicts in cases of stuff like this, (jury nullification) it'd go the way of prohibition."

We have often talked on this board about what we can do to make things better for providers and make the hobby safer for all of us from LE.  Maybe this is our chance.  We all can agree that this BS pulled by Sheriff Joe was a total Circus, designed to be a media play which it was.  But there are a lot of questions about proper arrest and charges and the public display of those involved.  Maybe this is when we should put our money where out mouth is and wage a real legal defense and counter suite attack against the sheriff and the county. If every active member of this board were to give $100 for a defense fund we might be able to do more to stop this harassment of the hobby than just about anything else we could ever do.
If we can make them spend a lot of time and money and make Joe look like the jerk he is it would send the message loud and clear for other agencies to leave us alone.

I saw a poll done the night of the bust that said only 3% of those polled thought it was a good use of time and money to go after this type of prostitution.  And we need to make is very clear that he may have netted more money in the busts than he spent (but if anyone believes he did all of that for $12,000 their fools) the big concern should be the man power use for this.  What about the 55,000 outstanding warrents that his office does not have the man power to serve.  That would have netted ten times as much or more money. Also I listened to the Preston Westmoreland talk show on KTAR Thur. evening and again Firday afternoon. He is not your most liberal kind of guy but he was very much against the raids and said prositution should be legalized.  Of all the calls that came in the two days I only heard two that were in support of the raids and they were both cops that preached the attached evils of drugs, theft, disease and organized crime. (that seems to be a key phrase "organized crime" don't they realize the best way to get ride of "granized crime" (who do you girls I see work for?) is to not make it a crime.  But back to the point.  Every other caller I heard, including many women, were opposed to chasing after prostitutes and many felt it should be legal.
I think this is the time to strick while this stupid bust is on everone's minds.  Yesterday an attorney posted his involvement in this issue.  Maybe he could tell us how we might be ablt to organize against what happened.  Remember guys there we six men with their names and faces on the evening news.  Its time to stand up for all of us.

I would be all for putting money into a fund, which brought to the media surface the issues you, pointed out.  55,000 outstanding warrants vs. manpower allotment, etc.  And to highlight the phenomenal blowing of smoke, BS and general disinformation that they're spewing as a rationalization for this "enforcement".

I'd love to see them have their "balls crushed" ever time they made a BS assertion about the "attached evils of drugs, theft, disease and organized crime" an assorted other unchallenged nonsense that spew out of their lying, self serving mouths.  It's a shame that the person running the radio show didn't call them on the carpet for those assertions.  I'm sure there is some level of job security that individual would have to assure for them self.

I've tried in the past to get some interest and action started to do something about our senseless laws on adult businesses. It's not just the prostitution laws that are interferring with our adult rights. Look at the laws regarding topless/nude dancing, social clubs and anything else that involves consenting adults engaging in anything sexual. What the hell ever happened to our right to the 'pursuit of happiness'??? I don't know about you but sex makes me reeeeal happy! How is it that just because of some others who can't handle their own sexuality everyone else shoulld have to do without? Are we going to keep sitting around bitching about it or is this latest bunch of crap enough to get us to do something? I've got my $100 ready to go towards a fund. Who's gonna make it happen???

the sex is always OK - the problem is the cash involved. Do it for free and its legal.

I think these laws are behind the time. Maybe its time to institutionalize the biz. With regulation, it'll actually be safer for everybody. There's plenty of Indian land around and they've accepted gambling. We've been cultured to think thugs and mafias on casinos, but what do we have? 60 year old retire folks crunching their Social Security. Its like we are lying to ourselves. Criminalize border crossers or job visas?
Gambling a crime? or reality? casual sex a crime? or reality?Someday we'll have laws that reflect reality.
Just have to get past the stay-at-home-moms who's 9-5 concerns are everyone's business!!!

hmmm, I wonder why they didn't visit any of the transexual providers that have ads in the rags they scanned? Perhaps they were to afraid of what their buddies on the force would think if they got naked and frolliced with a transexual? Just wondering, since most of the ads in the local papers are tranny providers. Not that there is anything wrong with being a transexual, most of the ads are honest and say it in big bold letters. Why didn't they bother to check those ladies out and for that matter, they didn't do any stings on the male escorts, they are few but they are out there.

Well, i'm not from the local area, but this isn't just a local problem either. And while i have no idea how to get started in making something like this happen, if you can figure out a way to get it off the ground you've got my hundred. PM me or email me if you need to.
