Actually, the message worked out precisely as I wanted it to.
First off, Paco, posting a message in the _morning_ about wanting an appointment in the _evening_ is hardly last minute. If I'd posted at 8pm wanting someone to come to my hotel at 9, you might have a point. "Short-notice" and "last-minute" are 2 different things - and posting before 6am gives plenty of time for a provider to look at my ad, take a look at my posting and review history, and decide to reach out.
And a handful of providers did. One, in particular, caught my attention, and we had plenty of time to do some additional verification because my last review was quite some time ago, and all was right with the world.
Three additional points... first, I could spend, literally, hours combing through reviews, and even nailing down every possible option of what I might be interested in, Phoenix has tons of reviews to... well... review. Then there's the hit-and-miss of deciding on even a few providers, starting to email them, and getting back the invariable "I'm traveling" or "I'm booked" or "I'm taking tonight off" resposes... and then it's back to square one.
So I put out an ad, asking, generally, for what I'm looking for - which produces responses from providers who are actually free and looking to make dates for the evening. Then I can check their reviews, look at their websites, and cut through the rigamarole completely. It's not a "silver platter", but an effective way for a hobbyist to link up with a provider who is actively looking to make appointments during a particular time frame.
Second point: I tend to operate under the radar nowadays, and that's when I do hobby, which isn't a ton. I find most providers have no problem with that. So yes, I haven't written a review in quite some time. JD Salinger published his last book in 1963, and lived nearly another 50 years. I'm not saying I'm Salinger, I'm just saying that not having written a review for 7 years is meaningless.
Third, you just put up a message, essentially doing what I did. You could, just as easily, do any one of a number of review searches, factoring in ratings, and poring over them looking for the key elements of what you want in a FBSM.
But you didn't. You put up a message asking for recommendations. I could be sarcastic back to you, not sounding like a 'total' dick (and btw - your half-hearted apology didn't fool anyone, and proves the point... you didn't mean to sound like a 'total' dick? So you meant to sound "kind of" like a dick? Either apologize for sounding like a dick or don't. I really couldn't care either way, and wouldn't have said anything beyond my initial response ['cause life's too short, Paco], but then you put up your twin messages - both your lame attempt at justifying your response to me, and then your post looking to cut through the chaff of reviews, looking for a recommendtion for a masseuse).
So yes, it is just you. My strategy worked, I had a great time on Friday night... Oh, and incidentally, Paco, the reason for my ad on Friday morning (instead of earlier in the week) was that my plans had fallen through. I could have added that detail, but it really just didn't matter.
Best of luck to you, Paco. You've got 3 reviews to your credit, and no white list referrals (and with your winning personality, I can't imagine why that is). It looks like you've just taken the plunge into hobbying. Welcome.
I've been hobbying for the better part of 2 decades. Were things different 7+ years ago? Yes. There were fewer dicks in the hobby. Definitely fewer instances of guys who had been hobbying for months lecturing guys who'd been in the game for years on the propriety of their posts.
