In general, working for an agency is a stepping stone for some providers before they decide to become independent.  What's the proper protocal if a provider, who you met though and is working for an agency, provides you with direct contact info to her?  Should you take the opportunity to deal with her alone, as she may be getting ready to leave the agency and want to keep you as a client, or is this considered a big NO No and stick to dealing with the agency?

Let's say I contract for a person or two via a personell agency (and the contract with the agency doesn't have a 'no hire' clause). Would it be proper (not the same as legal) for me to then cut the agency out of the loop? If the people I contract with then go "independent" (without any suggestion on my part), would I then be obligated to continue to work with the agency in an attempt to retain the person's services?

If I contract with a person directly and that person subsequently offers their services via an agency, would I be obligated to use that agency for access to that individual? (i.e. does my prior arrangement with that person become null and void?)

IMO, just because this is a fantasy industry, doesn't mean our personal code of ethics should be tossed away.

if the girl gave you her info and told you to contact her without agency knowledge then you should be questioning HER ethics...if she decides to go independent her new information will be located in her ads and you can always contact her then.

report her to the agency, they'll probably offer you a discount thats better than any deal she was going to give you.


you are not her client, you are the agency's client.  most people dont realize that sessions constitute about 5% of this job. the other 95% is marketing, networking, risk management, preparation. ...  it is common for agency girls to  try to steal clients and go independant.. they often fail because they dont realize what this job is all about.

the sessions are the easy part.

agencies dont hire girls with known aspirations to be independant anymore than any other industry.

if you owned a car lot, would you hire a guy who was interested in buying and selling some cars on the side  ?

would you think it was ok if he started handing out his business card to your customers ?

what if the customer was a repeat customer because  he was so happy with the deal he got from your guy the last time he was there ?

It may seem strange but I do feel that I'd stick with the agency. In the Phoenix area I have worked with the three big agencies ( TLC/DD/AZ CON) and feel that they have always been just and fair, In cases where there have been a sudden change of plans on their part they have worked hard to make things right both in pricing and choice of model. There are not any no=shows with an agency........they fill the gap. Whereas independents can vary. On the other hand if I found an agency provider that I had seen many times and decided that I wanted to take a several day trip with them I would see if we could not work out a "deal" either through her agency or independently to lower the cost.
