END OF MESSAGE

Okay, I made a post about someone's spelling in their ad.

Seems like it was a your VS you're or a there VS their thing so I would say it should have been addressed as grammatical, none the less the ad was deleted and I can no longer tell you what the error was.

I am not the "Queen", & Heaven knows I make my share of errors, and no one is perfect, but...

Although I make many type-o's, I always try to double check before I post, or at least read the post again and edit it, because although they are just type-o's and I CAN SPELL, it makes an impression on the reader most of the time.

It makes the writer seem to be somewhat uneducated if they cannot spell or use proper grammar. That does obviously matter to me, and it would make a difference more so if I were a hobbyist looking for a certain class of lady.

I am old though, and I notice things like that. Maybe now days it does not matter so much?
It still does to me because it is a reflection on the writer through the eyes of the reader. I guess I am a bit of a freak about it, so I apologize that I said something here about it in a finger pointing way. Sometimes I am just a bitch. But a really SWEET bitch. I have worked hard for that title too. lol
;)

I type the way I talk, so I do use slang and abbreviations like "shoulda" and "Sumpin'" cuz I like to and think that it brings out my personality more. That may bother some people, but I do that purposely to make what I write more "me-ish".

Ana Bang bang writes like that. She is very intelligent. I can see that how she writes is part of her STYLE and creativity. It is done intentionally and it does bring out that little spark of personality. (like she needed that, lol)

~~Sorry Ana, I am using you as my example. If it is upsetting for you I KNOW you will tell me. You know I mean it in a positive way anyway, so sue me. ha ha ha

So that is my whole thing about spelling/grammar.
I saw a blog about it and the lady was really nit-picky about it, but she spelled the word grammar "grammer" LOL!!!!

No wars over this please.
We do not want or need drama, right?
Right!

It isn't my intention to be cruel. It just happens to be an issue that I am addresssing due to a previous post/thread.

Let's keep it light! While we do have the opportunity to say what we think, there are good ways to do so!

P.S. I found this (and the link) on the internet. I am not calling anyone dumb, THEY are saying it makes you "look" dumb. **NOT ME, THEM.**

"Make an effort-

You've heard it before - the first impression is the most important one. If you want to make a good impression, don't make spelling mistakes. No matter how great your ad makes you sound, if you make a lot of spelling or grammatical errors in your ad they are going to think you are a buffoon. Write your ad in a word processing program and run the spell checker on it. Then cut and paste the text into your ad. Another quick point, type your ad in the correct, mixed case. Internet ettiquette is that if you write something in all capital letters, you are yelling at them. Yelling isn't really romantic now is it? If you're not sure that your ad is all that it should be, ask a friend to read it. Your friend will be sure to pick up the syntactical errors that elude your eyes. "

But in a search you can see that many do notice and care about this and one site said that if a resume contains errors they will pitch it.
An ad is a resume, so to speak or at the very least, it is a reflection on you.

I am putting away the soap box and headed to the bathtub now.

Have a really great Sunday everyone!

dont worry, i'd be more upset if people didnt talk about me... as long as i'm interesting enough to be a topic of conversation, i really dont care whats being said.

heres my opinion:

capitalization takes too much time because you need to use the shift key and i rarely find it necessary anyway.

apostrophe's are optional, to be used when i want.

i come from a loooooooong line of spelling bee champs and rarely will you see me misspell a word unless i'm doing it intentionally to add some character.

bad spelling is one of my pettiest peeves but i will normally just use the mispelled word in my response and spell it properly and hope they learn from that without causing them any embarrassment if i cant ignore it altogether.

however, if they are a jackass like the guy that emailed me telling me he was a physician, and mispelled the word physician, i will not only point out the mistake but when they email me back a response claiming that they wrote the email late at night and they were tired which resulted in a typo, i will definitely tell them they are a TOTAL jackass if they expect me to believe that they made the same exact typo 3 times in one paragraph.  i suggested to him that he might want to seek out a good DOCTOR and have himself checked for jackass-itis because from my observations there is an epidemic and he was very clearly suffering from the symptoms.

good spelling and grammar are indicative of your education level, but it's the thoughts and ideas behind what you say and the way you choose to gather information, process it and present it  that reflects your intelligence.

however, if someone is claiming a level of education, their spelling and grammar should be able to reflect it regardless of their intelligence and when it doesnt, it makes them look like a jackass, in my opinion.

While I agree in principle....email should be correct, unless using your own "mannerisms" to personalize the email. My problems come about in chat when I try and type things in fast, lol. But then, chat is a different world. I find that most mispellings occur when someone tries to move thier usual verbage up class and sound like something they are not. Such as using "query" instead of WTF (wink). Just playin with ya Ana.

And her Mom, Candy, ain't bad either.

I can do pretty well with grammar and sentence structure (especially when being graded) and, like the author of the article you've linked to, I can't describe the technicalities of grammar but I can structure appropriately, regardless.

I know to ask you to 'lie' on the bed rather than 'lay' on the bed. If I pick you up and place you on the bed, then I get confused whether I've lain you on the bed or subsequently laid you on the bed. In the end, both are correct, I guess. And, I know better than to dangle my participles unless you're into that kinda thing and we've established a 'safe word' before we start! ;)

but i forget what those conditions are so prepositions dangling never bother me and i've been known to dangle a few myself.

Have you ever noticed how when people rite stuf for email or the internet they dont really spell to carefuly or edit they're writings for gramar? we seee that alot here on TER, and too be perfectly honest with you, it realy makes us mad! why dont this people learn to spell?

The answer is not a simple one. Some people don't consider the internet or a "board" a worthy fourm of careful spelling and grammer. Others have a hard time typing. Still others simply get a little excited and make understandable mistakes in translating their thoughts to postings online. Whatever the reason, flaming bad spellers has become a favorite pastime here on the internet.

Aside from spelling problems, the most common grammatical goofs you will find, are the ones made by those suffering from CRAPS. Now, before you snicker at the misfortune of others, please understand that CRAPS (Capitalization and Random Apostrophe and Punctuation Syndrome) is a very real disorder diagnosed by the Surgeon Assistant-Leiutenant's medical examiner.

Here's a writing sample from a CRAPS victim: "If you think you're Opinion is more Valid than mine, your in for a big surprise. The interNet let's me say what I want, and they're is'nt anything you or you'r Powerful friend's can do about it!"

While the above example is sad, there's nothing funny about CRAPS and it's debilitating results. So what makes for a funny misspelling on the Net? Usually, it's a double entendre created by poor spelling or a grammatical faux pas that draws the attention of spell-flamers. This riting offers a few prime examples, and you'll start to notice them more often as you look for them. Good Luck! we hope your sucesful in you're own personnal search for bad spelers!.

I dunno...sounds like perfectly good English to me. How could the grammarians have gotten this one so wrong?

One advantage of using Mozilla Firefox as a web browser is that you can install an English spell checker which will automatically check for spelling errors in any web page which has text entry fields.
