How do you know that no one's mind will be changed?

Many things once thought wrong have been more accepted, and many things thought alright have been since denounced because of a change of public opinion...so how can you be certain it can't and won't change on this?

You say that the best thing for this industry is that it be kept private.

Is that really best?  The opponents of it don't keep their prejudices against it private, and their vocalising their judgement hasn't seemed to hurt their cause any.

Public opinion doesn't change overnight...but it can change.

Wouldn't it be nice if someday you didn't risk getting arrested for seeking the company of a lady for a session? If you didn't risk ending up on some "John" file? If the only reason you had to hide your hobbying was because your wife might not appreciate it?

If ladies only had to be concerned with their safety instead of that and getting arrested? If a stay at a tent city wasn't the punishment for companionship?  If they weren't branded unfit mothers? or risked evictions, or losing day jobs because they work in this industry?

This business has opperated in silence, and that hasn't worked so well as all over the country there have been crackdowns, stings, harsher punishments enacted for the ladies, public "john" galleries online, etc.

You think things will get better by silence?
You think things will even just stay as they are by silence?

Silence hasn't helped anyone so far...I doubt it will.

I know there has been much discussion on Isabella's appearance on the Tyra Banks show. But here is a point that hasn't been made.

Nobody's mind will be changed, so why bother with the media play? Who would change his/her mind after viewing Isabella's "testimony"? Nobody.

Sure the show focuses attention on the bad side of the "adult" industry, but appearing on the show to give "the other side's" view is preaching to the choir on the one hand and battering your head against a brick wall on the other.

I don't know Isabella and have nothing against her. But if her motive was to point up that not all providers are doped out, diseased streetwalkers, it was unneeded and misdirected.

The best thing is for the industry that we appreciate to ignore those kinds of shows and keep a low profile. Consenting adults who choose to serve each other's needs in a healthy, safe environment should keep it a private thing.

I was just being rhetorical, not absolute.

I agree with everything you said about the waste of public money spent on enforcing morality. If no one is harmed, the government should stay out of it.

Thus, when pimps exploit women by making them virtual slaves, I say crack down on them. But in the segment of the business we all are familiar with, it's either a case of independent women meeting the needs of men for a price or businesses where women can offer their services in a safe environment while commissioning the providers of leads and facilities at a mutually agreeable rate.

Maybe there would be a few minds changed by exposure to the arrangements we know and accept, but in the good old U.S. of A, GOVERNMENT is not going to change. Hell, we have a president who takes away our liberties in the name of fighting terrorism, who criticizes state religions yet wears his Christianity on his shirt sleeve and his army helmet, who spends billions (enriching his buddies in the process) abroad while bankrupting schools and local/state governments at home. Even a smarter government will never be liberated enough to abandon the "family values" position against sex for hire.

I am not against advocating for open minds, for a free and liberating society. The uneasiness I felt in reading about Isabella's appearance on Tyra's show was that it also focused attention on SPECIFIC areas and how we use the Internet to hook up. That just invites crackdowns and harassment by elected officials and their minions.

That said, I think we all wish things were different.
