SO I see some sites and the lady says "I prefer 2 hours appointments, especially for new friends" and I think to myself, "Self, why do they do that?". I mean, if I am meeting someone new, heck, I'd prefer a half hour? Why? Because we don't know if there is chemistry yet. And if there is not, I'd hate to be stuck with someone I do not click with for two hours. And honestly, I think it is the providers role to make that chemistry happen, in say, the first 5 minutes. That is why the fee is what it is.

I go to socials to make my list so to speak. I get a few minutes with each person, than set my appointments. I have only ever gone the wrong path on situations where I had not met at a social.

Why don't you do more, "for new friends, I have a half hour rate". Don't offer it to guys who return would be ok, or use the various pricing method. I know for most, it is because they get the word of mouth referral from their shills, so they don't need to, but my guess, is that more guys would do the half hour thing. Even say for $$ instead of the going $$.5 or $$$ or $$$$ for an hour.

LOL... I actually happen to agree with you on this one.  Generally, two people can tell if they click in a reasonably short amount of time.  Why try to fill two hours, especially knowing that the time FLIES when you're with someone you genuinely enjoy?!

I agree it is a great idea I use to do the half hours for new clients

For this reason, Come, get to know me- and for only $95 bucks you can really see if we click or if you think an hour of my time would be worth it. I discontinued this offer for many reasons but.... (IN GENERAL)
1) the guys who would see me for my $95.30 min special would NEVER book an hour because they were budget shoppers

2) the guys coming for the 95.00 special look for the most they can get for their $$ and would want to go 3+ times in 30 minutes

3) the guys coming for the 95.00 special would try to pull some of the sneakiest things on me (thinking I must be a floozy for offering something for less than 100 bucks)

4) would overstay their 30 minutes by 15 minutes or MORE (THIS ONE WAS COMMON!)

Like I said, this was in general and not ALL the guys who took advantage of it treated me this way- the MAJORITY did. It just got to the point where it wasn't worth my time anymore to spend the 1.5 hours getting ready to drive over to my incall to be stood up, or to provide an hours worth of service for $95.00

on many issues and this is of course one.
I don't think requiring a min of a 2 hour booking is a good idea....why not let that be the choice of the gent. That certainly limits how often the telephone rings.

I have had a 1/2 special on my site now for several months and have a few regulars that this works great for the schedule they have.

I agree with what Tina said as to some taking advantage of the time when 30 mins is offered.
I offer the 30 min for 200 and 1 hour for 350 and of course  the hour is not near rushed with plenty of time for the second round...wink

So find a 1/2 in your day and come see what I have for you!!!

The reasons for the longer first appointment, to my mind, could be many.

You mention "clicking" and not wanting to be "stuck" with someone that you don't "click" with for two hours...you also mention knowing if you "click" within say 5 minutes. You also mention meeting at "socials"  and talking for a "few minutes to make your "list".

I doubt "clicking" is the impetus for the 2 hour first appointment...you can figure that out in a matter of minutes or if the click isn't there perhaps at first sight...what you might not be able to do in a matter of moments is become comfortable with another.

So, two strangers meet for the first time face to face, one of them is there to have fantasy fulfilled and one is there to do the fulfilling...fantasy that isn't mentioned in advance, that isn't talked about and isn't submitted for approval. Preferences not listed by either before that face to face meeting...no talk of I would like this, or I do or do not do that...

Two strangers, meeting for the first time, where they don't have a "feel" for each other, not a matter of do I want to...or can I do this that or the other...not a chemical spark, but a comfort and understanding of expectations and how to make the experience good.

So, from no talk of likes or dislikes, expectations or desires to figuring those things out and then doing them to the ability of the client leaving with a smile that lasts days or weeks after the appointment...when ya think about that, accomplishing it in a matter of two hours is pretty good...to get there in a half hour? that is a lot to accomplish...

Maybe first 45 seconds to get comfortable?
next 2 minutes and 30 seconds to figure out at least one thing that the client really wants and how he wants it?  
45 seconds of talking?  
2 minutes to warm up?  
(6 minutes in and everyone is still dressed....)
Maybe 2 minutes to start the nekkid-ifying process for each...so 4 minutes total?
(10 minutes in...only 20 left before the time is up)
15 minutes for "action"?
5 minutes to get cleaned up, dressed and out the door?  

Maybe it's just me, but I'd probably need more than 6 minutes to work up to nekkid...and were I with a lady, that I had never met before, that did manage to get there that quickly...crazy me but I would think it was a matter of her just getting done and have very little to do with me or what I want or would enjoy...it would, no matter how convincing, make me think "mechanical"  and following a script...where the other "character" doesn't effect the script...no matter what I said or did, wanted or liked wouldn't change what was going to happen, how it was going to happen....and if that is how it felt...I doubt a second visit would be at all likely.


Then there are the more monetary possibilities for a two hour requirement for a first appointment.  Many clients will only see a lady once, some because he really is in this for variety, some because he treats this "hobby" like brid watching or stamp collecting (to tick off in his book he saw a yellow bellied sap sucker...or find that rare mis printed stamp and stick it in a  book to just" say "I got one"), some because his ATF was out of town or retired and he was just filling a opening (pun intended) or "test driving" a possible new ATF...any number of reasons.

Now, the first appointment, that is the one where all the screening happens.  That is the one where the lady has to contact other ladies he has seen, check work information, do the most pre-appointment interaction...the appointment that demands the most time of clerical and "off time" work.

So, with that appointment taking the most time to set, and the possibility of it being an only appointment that will ever happen with that client...it does make sense to require a longer appointment to both have a donation that covers the time to make the appointment happen and to take the time to work to make the time actually spent together "special" (to increase the likelihood of  repeat meetings).    

The idea of a lady taking time to feel out the client, get comfortable with each other, figure out from some "trial and error" exactly what is going to make the client very, very happy, and then to do it...rest and repeat.  Two hours doesn't seem an inordinately long time to accomplish that.

Then again I could be completely wrong...but it at least sounds logical...maybe?

I really liked this question-it speaks to motivations, human nature and economics simultaneously.

My theory-and a theory is all this can ever be-is that providers, irrespective of the reason they become providers, all desire not to be commoditized, and a half-hour rate could, in their estimation, turn what they do into a "volume" business.

Commoditization negates the concept of "freedom" they enjoy by choosing this profession in the first place. Then it becomes all about watching the clock, so they don't "go over" and feeling cheated by the guy who lollygags an extra 15.

Half hours ccould be a real grind, no pun intended.

It's a fundamental difference in how one perceives a session. I believe hobbyists bottom line it in their heads, and look at it as dollars per time period. That’s how most of us get paid in our own lives, be it hourly or salary, its x dollars for x period.

It's why we shop for value, look to maximize our time while minimize our expense, or are drawn to a two hour rate that is, hourly, less than a one hour rate, even though the total dollar outlay is more-we perceive that as a "better deal".

Even though no given time period is never entirely filled by actual "providing", there's the small talk, the "getting to know you", whatever you wanna call it. Providers market two hour sessions to us that way, cause that's how WE think.

I believe a provider looks at her "work day" in terms of how many clients will she see today, or how many does she NEED to see to make the money she wants, and conversely to hobbyists, how can she maximize her dollars while minimizing....wear and tear, let's say.

Say Provider Polly is doing this for the money-so she charges 200 for a half hour, 300 for an hour and 500 for two, and her goal is 1000 for her given day. Sure, her goal could be 200, which blows my theory out of the water, but I have to believe they aspire for more than a subsistence income.

So, she can see respectively, 5 clients, at least 3 but more like 4, or she can see 2 at her two hour rate.

Yes, yes the actual TIME spent is an hour and a half higher at a half hour versus the two hour rate, but the quantity is dramatically less.

I dunno about other hobbyists, but I couldn't imagine 5 sessions in a day-more than 2 would really feel like work.

Now imagine you had to be funny, seductive, entertaining, charming, mentally and physically on your A game each and every time.

Would you be more conscious of how many minutes you had to be a provider, or how many different TIMES in a given day you had to be a provider?

If YOU were a provider, which business model makes more sense to you? A two hour standard seems the most "efficient" one, from a provider point of view.

Provided you subscribe to my theory, anyway.

Sure, overall, 500 may be a harder sell than 200, but if I WERE a provider, that's how I would do it.

Actually, I would offer all three options, because for me being a provider would be all about freedom and having choices.

There will always be people who will try to take advantage of a good deal and stretch it to the limits of propriety... so, I totally understand where you're coming from, Tina.

I think that most (I said 'most', not all) of the gentlemen of TER prefer a more relaxed atmosphere and thus, an hour or more of 'getting to know you' time is ideal for a first appt.

I imagine these issues are the very reason that some of our more established providers offer a standard 1-hour minimum.

I do offer 1/2 hour appointments, but rather than offering it for 'new clients', I provide the option to my repeat clients who can sometimes have a hard time finding few extra hours in a particularly busy work week.  It offers the chance for a quick tryst over the lunch hour or on the way to work or home... and if it's someone I've connected with enough to have invited them back, then I'm never opposed to a 'quickie'!!  

For clients and providers alike... the first meeting is a delicate little dance of "please like and accept me" on both sides that doesn't always get the time and attention that is due.  

I suppose it's just another great example of YMMV.

I know exactly where you are coming from Tina. I had that happened before too, when I was offering half hour specials a very long time ago, and these days I only offer it to gentleman that I have seen previously. It is not worth the time and effort involved to have someone here for 50 min when they are paying for 30. With a repeat client I wouldn't say anything about going over time, unless it happened every time.

Aria, I've haven't had the pleasure (yet!), but I've seen your website.  You are SUCH a cutie, and your pictures show SO much personality, I can hardly imagine a half-hour would be enough of you, either!

When it comes to incall, I've never tried to pay for a 1/2 hour session. I don't think I've stayed a whole hour unless I get into some conversation. It's not that I feel like I rush through it, but when I'm done it seems like it's time to go, and I'm maybe too respectful of the ladies time.
When it comes to outcall (out of town for me) I always book at least 2 hours! Becuase I feel like it's the right thing to do, or I would be too rushed.

Coochmeister, take it from someone who's seen Aria a 'few' times (ahem). Time does goes by way too fast when visting her for the reasons you noted (amongst a few 'others') One of the best conversationalists in the industry!

Well... on some days, I'm sure a half-hour is PLENTY.  I can sometimes be a handful.  
(Yes, every pun and double entendre is intended.)

On other days... I could entertain for hours.  My coffee table is a little scuffed up from the tap-dancing, but my new place has tile and an open area perfect for cartwheels, so we can get creative if we need to.
