I don't think you'll be able to get into the "nitty gritty" TRUTH of hobbying here... some posts will get taken down. For instance, forums on psychological issues about behaviors such as sneaking around (alternate lives), what is healthy vs unhealthy sexual activity (not STD's... but repetitive behavior, etc), and sexual addiction are noticably absent.
The community here (as are most, nothing sinister) is about "bolstering" acceptance of "hobbying", not questioning it. You'll probably have to go outside to find out good info.
I so disagree with the "bolstering "comment, it seems to me that the board offers info and I take what I want from it,I haven't seen or associated a good or bad from it. And can't imagine a post being taken down unless it was inappropriate on whatever level.Hard to imagine that honest dialogue would be censored and in the couple of years I have been around, the only posts that have disappeared have been of the personal attack variety. There is no doubt, a dark side exists in the hobby, is it the norm, no I don't think so. I was steered to the national board today and by and large the type of discussion i was hoping to have on this board seems to flourish there.
Yes the national board sounds more like what you are looking for. It is my opinion that it seems that the national is designed for general topics and the regional are for that particular city and it's gals and guys and things that are important to them. Right now for example, how and what is going on with the Super Bowl in town now is important to us or anyone visiting Phoenix. It isn't necessarily something that people in Ohio would want to discuss.
But I know everyone here enjoys hearing all sorts of topics but the regional board should be more geared to that city.
May I also suggest going to the online chats, especially in the evening. There you will find both gals and guys from all over (including other countries) discussing everything and anything. There you will enjoy a group chat and not just posts.
Imagine that ,OHIO not interested in the super bowl. Must be no bettors or bookies. If intelligent conversation(not just general topics) and posts that might provoke thought are not geared to Phoenix , then I will entertain moving so that I'm not here when Sheriff Joe is elected again. I think you play the valley "small".
I gave Ohio just as an example, it could ANY WHERE else, of them not being interested in say the 250 parties going on right now for the Super Bowl. That is unless they were thinking of coming out to some of them.
Perhaps a better example of regional topics might be people talking about how the snow storms afffect their hobbying would probably not be a topic for Phoenix.
Just trying to show that not all topics fit all areas thus the reason for the National Board and regional boards.
Not sure what you mean by playing Phoenix small. But I am a Phoenix native and I have always lived here in the valley. So trust me it is NOT small - it used to be but not now!!! And I mean that in all aspects not just size. We had no freeways, no arts, no concerts, no nothing.
The problem is that everyone who opposes Joe has ti get behind one person and work to support that person through the process. Saban tried in the Republican primary last time and got smeared by Joe - now he is going to try as a Democrat.
try to summarize what i believe I hear. I hear Misty saying there is intelligent conversation on the national board and that is where it belongs. If you live in the 'valley' , we are really not interested in constructive conversation or 'general topics'. My thought is if a local hobbyist/provider wants to start a dialogue,then it belongs here! I don't think chilopsis was looking for advice as much as he was looking for peeps with a similar bent.
No I meant topics of a general nature tend to be on the national board and you will get more varied opinions/posts there due to it being NATIONAL.
And on the local boards you will tend to get topics and people from that particular city only. As some subjects and people are of more interest to that area. For an example, we here in Phoenix are not going to be interested in the parade for the Giants tomorrow in New York unless we were planning on attending and then we would go to THAT City's local board.
