Coaches, like teachers, are special

We all have memories of certain teachers who encouraged us or had a significant impact on our lives.

But regarding coaches, I knew little about them because I grew up in a family of girls and none of us were in high school or college sports.

But this past year my son, a high school freshman, got involved with sports and I finally had the opportunity to see how good coaches interact with their students.

One coach in particular was wonderful. Yes, he sometimes got angry and yelled at the boys, but mostly he yelled out words of encouragement. He and his wife had get-togethers at their house throughout the season to encourage parental support and keep the team spirit alive.

But what most impressed me happened the day before the city finals meet. My son and his teammates were nervous and feeling pressure since the year before their school had done great at finals.

Then the coach passed out notes to each boy. Each note was different but basically said the coach appreciated that boy's hard work and dedication. No matter the outcome of finals, he  was proud to have had the boy on the team.

It really lifted up the boys' morale, and the next day they did very well in the finals.

My son still keeps that note in his drawer.

So, welcome, c0ach, to the Phoenix board...and thanks to all the coaches out there...your dedication won't be forgotten.

Early this year I was searching for activities to do on an upcoming trip to your fine city. Searching through numerous sites I accidentally found TER. (What a goldmine this place is) Needless to say I had a great experience with an awesome lady in your fine city. To her (you know who you are) I want to say Thank You. Upon returning home I decided to check out the ladies and discussion boards for my local area. To be honest there were a few that peaked my interest, but it was nothing like the ladies in your fine city. I tried to get involved on my local boards but they just did not have the same dynamic as the Phoenix board. At that point I decided that I would only hobby when traveling. That has all changed now that so many of you are traveling out here to the west coast.
Basically I want to say a few Thank You's.
Thank you TER and to your moderator's for the thankless job you do. Keep up the great work.
Thank you to the great providers that have rocked my world.
Thank you to all of the contributors to this board. Guys and gals alike. Your thoughts, experiences, and input have been very helpful.
Thank you to my ex-wife for moving my kids to Phoenix. LOL I actually wished that they still lived here. But I now have reasons to visit Phoenix on a regular basis.
Even though I do not live in Phoenix I have always felt welcome here. My local board has slammed me in the past for sticking up for the fine ladies of Phoenix. To them I say "You can Kiss My Ass"
Phoenix Thank You for letting me be a part of your board. If none of you object I would like to call this board my home.

Coach

I Highly Recommend going back 2 the beginning of this board i.e. 11/2000, and some 211 pages, along with some 5,261 posts this will give U a better sense of the lay of the land.  It makes 4 an interesting read on what U might be getting into with your declaration of " making this board your home",ok,,  Just my 2 cents along with some insightfulness needed on your part as not 2 get the flame under U.

Are you from the Tampa, FL area? ..I had a good friend from there that hung around a Strip Club I managed that we called "coach"... dw

No I am from So. Cal but I have been known to hang out at strip clubs from time to time, but never in Florida.

Thanks for the reply... the "coach" I drank with was a former NFL veteran from the mid-west.
