Rather than jump all the way in at first, why not start first by offering your own "amateur" films over the web, either on tape or download? (For a good example of this kind of site, have a look at Dawn Allison's site: http://www.dawnsplace.com) Or you could try modeling and making videos for one of the major porn sites, such as Danni's Hard Drive (http://www.danniashe.com). That way, you could both decide if you like that kind of work and get a better handle on the response you'd get, perhaps letting you negotiate a better fee from production companies.

One thing to bear in mind, the advent of the Web has allowed models to set up their own web sites, make and sell their own videos, and thus keep more of the profits from their work. Plus, you'd be the boss. With good marketing, I think it would be more profitable for you than, say, doing a film here or there.
