Wondering as a new hobbyist how to obtain a reference. it appears that all the quality providers require references. I'm professional, married etc. and discretion is paramount... Help!

not necessarily references.  Check their websites or drop them a line, and most will see you without a prior reference if you'll allow them to verify some information about your identity.  Once you've done that with one of them, you'll then have a reference!
