Yes, this is quite common sadly thanks to Facebook thinking and trying to get *everyone* connected. Based on what I have read, your phones picked up each other's GPS when you were nearby and that's why she came up as a recommended friend.
Ladies, and gents - this is why I always turn off my location services when I am going to see a client and even signing out of Facebook altogether while you're together. I'd give her a heads up and find an internet article that outlines how facebook works so she can adjust accordingly by deleting or whatever needs to be done. You can discreetly message saying you're an old friend and didn't expect to find her there and just wanted to give a heads up in case she was unaware that FB was linking her to her old friends.
I'd personally appreciate that a lot more than someone pretending it never happened.
It's because you've saved that particular person in your contacts on your phone. This has happened to me several times and I usually block them if I didn't like them lol.

This is happening to me... more and more frequently. I put a provider's number into my phone to contact her for an appointment and a day later she pops up on my feed of suggested people to friend on facebook. I'm certain it is happening to her as well and I'm sure she is mortified as I am.
