I haven't been in Philly in such a long time, but wanted to get feedback from the locals since I will be consulting there for approximately 6 months.

Vetris. Is  the best Italian in the country

Ralph's in South Philadelphia is my favorite for casual and affordable Italian.  If price is no object then try La Famiglia.

La Fimaiglia is great.  Great selction of Grappa.  Le Castagne on Chestnut is good also.

Absolutely go to "Ralph's Italian Restaurant" at the intersection of 9th St. and Catherine St.

Highly reviewed everywhere.  A little picey but worth it.

This is a hard one Stillers.
Like many, I like to do my Italian (BYOB) and the more authentic the better.  If I can practice my rusty Italian while in the process then it's a home run!
There are many to choose from, however I enjoy Modo Mio.  Serafina (out of NYC) will be open in April and that will be the one to go to!
Great post btw!

are making my mouth water lol I will keep them all in mind especially Ralph's when I make a Philly area visit.

So, I will probably sample them all.

My brother-in-law mentioned Ralph's. He also said Modo Mio had a very creative menu and when I checked their website, his comments rang true. I also like the fact the street they are on is my middle name.

From my experience, my favorite restaraunts in any cuisine usually end up being a place I never heard of originally and then partake based on recommendations, leaving very satisfied.

Ciao

best quality for price (byob) is La Viola.  They were so popular that they had to open a second restaurant across the street!  253 and 252 (more formal) S. 16th St near Spruce st.  Veal and calamari excellent.
