As to the other side of it, a professional who finds herself in the situation of canceling within her own window (I guess I've just been lucky because its never happened to me) generally offers either extra time or a discount on the next session.

So really and truly, it just keeps that kind of disrespectful person off my schedule rather than results in me collecting a lot of cancellation fees.
That's been my experience at least.
Sure some people read the cancellation policy in my confirmation email and say, "hey, I can't agree to this."
And you know what I say?
Good riddance.
I only see gentleman, and this is just one more way to be sure that someone who isn't doesn't get through to me.

Maybe they're too busy fuming about the ladies who have cancelation polices to be paying attention to what's truly happening?
Most any personal professional service enforces cancellation fees: massage therapists, house cleaners, dog walkers, and doctors and therapists for darned sure.
And what about the majority of plane tickets and vacation rental deposits?
You change your schedule, you're out of luck there.
If you don't want a professional service, then stick with the folks who don't act with professionalism.
And good luck with that!
