Cole is the only starter we have (notice, just because I have season tickets, I have made myself a partner) who we can reasonably expect to win a game with only three runs. Tampa has three if not four good starters, we have one great one and three that can be really good or not so much. Stranding runners all over the bases will be fatal unless our next three can all perform up to their best. Let's face it, Tampa is the best team in the better league.
Not their best performance of the year, but a win is a win is a win. Somewhat exciting (and often nerve-racking!) win by the Fightin' Phils in Game 1. Even though I've seen him pitch better, still a solid job by Cole Hamels. I knew we had it nailed down as soon as we got to "Brad Lidge time." (That dude is awesome.)
Next game promises to be even tougher with the totally unpredictable Brett Myers starting against a strong fastball hitting team. I hope he brings his nasty good curveball with him to the ballyard for Game 2.
And is it asking too much for the big guys (other than Chase Utley) to deliver with runners in scoring position at least once in a while??? Ryan Howard and J-Roll are killin' me!
All in all, it's a blast watching our boys in red get closer to being champs, ain't it?

Hey, I think Melvin Emanuel "B. J." Upton (whatta nickname - I wonder if he also goes by CBJ or BBBJ?) just got to first base after hitting that double-play groundout. Don't tell me that ANY team is "the best team in the better league" with a dog like this guy on it. Perhaps the guy should watch some Chase Utley or Shane Victorino video, or Pete Rose, for that matter, to learn how to play the game. Besides, many of the Rays hitters look far too homerun happy; long swings looking to pull everything and hit the "B" ring. The Phils will win because of the things you cannot see on a stat sheet, and anyone who ever laced up a pair of spikes and swung a bat knows the intangibles I speak of. Did the Phils play their best game last night? No, far from it, but they won the game, and that's a good sign to me. Don't be surprised folks if this thing ends this weekend in Philadelphia, and it won't be the visitors celebrating!!!
