Geno's has chopped meat and Pat's has sliced, other than that, it's the same.
Order w/Cheeze Wiz, not Provolone and get hot and sweet peppers.

Passing through Philly in a couple of days, and I want to eat what Philly is famous for. Can I get some recommendations? I will be in center city.

I want to keep on topic to avoid any thunderbolts from the mod, so yes I plan on getting laid and have an appointment scheduled ;)

Saw that onetime in the summer at lunch. Ick. I like my steak seasoned the traditional way.

Best steak sandwich is in Bala at Mama's. Thing weighs more than a brick, stuffed with meat and 5x the cheese of Pat's.

You definitely need a car to get there.  They have won some "Best of ..." awards but they are still so underated compared to the others mentioned.  I don't know why --  the bread and meat are perfect double team!   Chicken cheesesteaks are good providers (of nourishment) as well.

And if the lady you decide to see is vegetarian, you can still both enjoy a post-coital pre-review snack because their veggie sandwich is pretty good.  TER really needs to add CFCDFP (cheesesteak fully consumed during foreplay) option to the services menu.  Would that qualify me for another point, I wonder?  I don't do Greek but I do red meat, LOL!  ;)

Okay -- I haven't been there in a while and now I'm getting hungry... maybe I should run a "bring me a cheesesteak get an extra 30 minutes" special when I return from NYC Friday.... Hmmm.....

Saw them once on Man vs. Food and their Italian roast pork with broccoli rabe and provolone sandwich made me want to travel the 100 or so miles to devour one.

Its in the Reading Terminal Market and the pulled pork sandwich is very good. The brocolli rabe was the kicker. Tony Luke's pulled pork is better IMO.

I have not only grazed on cheesesteaks for years but wrote part of a guidebook to Philadelphia, during which I sampled many cheesesteak offerings. In my view the two best places are, first, John's Roast Pork in far South Philly on Snyder just west of Columbus. The downside? It is only open until around 3:00 p.m. Right up there with John's is Steve, the Prince of Steak in Northeast Philly at Bustleton and St Vincent. It is a bit of a drive but the cheesesteak at the end of the journey makes the trip worthwhile. Otherwise, I find Wit' or Witout on Frankford just north of Cottman in Northeast to be pretty good and, actually, you can't go wrong with Pat's , that old standby, at Wharton and Passyunk in South Philly. I don't like Geno's very much and find Jim's on South Street to be awful.
