to schedule your appointments days ahead of time, that something to look forward to state of mind, or do you prefer the same day appointments?

Normaly no more than a couple days ahead of time for me.However I do enjoy the hunt.   So sometimes finding a same day appointment can be quite rewarding.

...but not too far in advance, usually only a day or two.  I always try to do as much homework as I can and I've run into situations in the past when trying to schedule a same day appt. where there isn't enough time for her to screen me.

because either way my appointment is going to get fucked up.  It seems to be the trend lately.

Maybe its just me...

Days ahead of time. That way I can both look forward to it as well as wonder if something will happen to screw it up.
