I  returned to San Francisco from Thailand in 1974 and was met with the then prevalent "baby killer" greeting and spit.  I was an Air Force lieutenant and endured another two years of civilian hostility to my uniform, becoming a civilian myself again in 1976.

I learned in 1987 that one of my best friends in high school served in Cambodia and never returned.  I think of him often, especially on Veteran's Day.

I wish all who are currently serving overseas a safe return home.
