hotels around JWA are hobby friendly.  Most OC indies will do outcall to that area, and you are only about a mile from a half dozen Asian incalls.  My preference is Crown Plaza when I am in OC overnight for an early flight out.

Well, I personally recommend Pelican Hill Resort. Upscale hotel and nice place. A little bit far from SCP and JWA but it's a nice place.

There's a Marriott Courtyard about 2 miles from the airport.  
The Atrium hotel is right across the street from John Wayne and the airport HILTON is right next to it.
You will be happy with any of the three.  
Just remember that most hotels around here charge for overnight parking. The Courtyard parking is free.  
Freeways are all close and so are several restaurants if all types.  
I've stayed there and like it.
